Introducing Journal!

We've been testing it for weeks, but now most of the bugs are ironed out and I'm excited to announce that allpoetry now supports Journals! Blog or write about your day to day life, things you're excited about, etc. Choose 'add' at the top, then 'add a journal' on the right side. Or just browse the journals at alljournal.com.
I know this is a bit late entry into the myspace/facebook battle, but the integration with allpoetry and storywrite should help people be able to share what is going on in their personal lives, etc.

Alljournal uses "friends". People that are mutual favorites on allpoetry have been added as alljournal friends. Allpoetry will relatively soon move to having "friends" as well, vs. just favorites.

From the alljournal site directly, you can post journals as a "type" of poem, etc. They won't show up at allpoetry.

Alljournal also has privacy settings, for the first time in any of our sites - you can choose whether you want 'just you' to be able to read it, 'just friends', or 'all'.

Hope you enjoy, and happy writing! I look forward to reading all the fun new journal posts

-Kevin

  • I found a bug, when I try to add a journal of mine to a list, some random poem comes up from a person I don't know, can we add journals to lists?

    Friends

The limitation to "Friends only" appears to allow those who have added me as a favourite to read, this is more or less useless since I don't control who adds me unless I am online and remove them, which seems a trifle harsh. I want a setting that allows me to choose who reads it.

Not that I don't love AllJournal - but I'm still a little worried about the fact that I am getting random people's comments on my "me only" journals.

Hey there Kevin, one bug is that it says I support the site as a gold member - I wish I did, but due to money considerations I've even had to stop supporting as a silver one...

    Thank you.

Great work! Thanks for fixing the journal glitches.

However, I noticed something else that you might want to fix, for the privacy of Alljournal members. If an entry is set as "friends only" or "me only" anyone could still view that post by clicking on the RSS of new journals.

I'm glad Allpoetry is going to have friends and a favorite writers list soon.

        You're welcome.

There are some more things I've noticed:

        1. Unable to browse journals via categories.
        2. Backgrounds and font colors do not show when re-reading an entry from My account---> My journals, clicking on recent journals, from author page, or next by (name here). Whenever I view my entry, it ends up with the default background. Currently, the only way to view your journal with its chosen background is: edit background, then click 'submit' again.
        3. The 'Un-Delete Journals' feature doesn't work. (Able to delete but not un-delete.)
        4. Journal drafts aren't working- unable to view the draft to read and edit it.
        5. Spell check on the journals also does not work. A pop up box appears: “Could not execute AJAX call, server didn’t return valid a XML.”

Much like Allpoetry, I think Alljournal will become addicting.

Will our favorites on AP be able to see our journals if they're not listed as favorites on AllJournal? I noticed that some of my favorites here on AP does not have an account on AJ...and I would really rather not have to do all of this separately. I would rather be able to post journals from AP then have to go to the separate site to do it...If that can't be done, or will be changed, then it's really of no use to me.

it gets a bit complicated because allpoery doesn't have a concept of 'friends' right now, but yes, I expect they will eventually be synched together as well.

Currently, all mutual-favorites at allpoetry were added as friends at alljournal.

It should work via ap right now with your ap friends, but keep me posted if/when bugs are found

      Rose

you can add journals from ap without going to the other site and if you set it to public or just friends, your favorites can view it.

  • so now I am torn between LJ and APjournal.

Just curious- if we are gold members here on AP, will that membership carry over to this site as well?

Love the idea, think it is great

there is a free gold for everyone right now @ alljournal, and it is planned to continue for quite awhile (6 months or a year at least)

      No

We are not gold members over there except for the free trial, its just like storywrite, sharepoetry and the other sister sites. They are seperate but linked

I like the ideas, and changes.
But please keep allpoetry, allpoetry and not allmyspace.

Thanks for all you do on this site.

Okay. Next thing you know, you'll be voted in the Senate besides the president elect. And if you had to go to the Whitehouse, we'd miss you and the struggle with the bugs and such. And..and, if that wouldn't be the worst of it, your Mother and I would have to come and visit and check to see if you are indeed feeling your Cheerios and drinking your carrot juice. *tsk..tsk*.

    Do you not STOP? .

Hey, Kevin. This is great for those who want to blog seems safer somehow, and perhaps the level of everything else will raise.

This could be fun. But remember ...to not devulge too much personal info kiddies. It could be dangerous.

  • I'm happy you made the column.
I used the journal a few times several weeks ago but stopped because it seemed not many people were aware of it. I think I'll use it again now.
