The concept of *Show & Tell* = A balance of Descriptive Speech and Creative Imagery, running parallel to Voice and Movement within your write -
If you have too much *Show*, you don't have enough Movement to take us on the journey of your theme/storyline -
If you have too much *Tell*, you leave us without Vision, of what your journey looks like -

It is always a challenge. Assume your audience knows to much and what you show appears as nonsense. Assume they don't know enough and you insult their intelligence of bore them to tears with too much tell. Balance is a simple word for almost a magical intelligence.

It is a very fine line that many, myself included, have trouble with. Thanks for the explanation.

Yes, indeed a fine line....recognizing it is your first step to a grreat write.....nice job!

The "tell" is there to explain what has been shown. "Show, not tell" is what I've always been told but you do need some explanation so things will make sense.
Thanks for the column. -
