We're doing an experiment - all bids in the featured box have just been refunded. The base cost is 5, and will of course go up depending upon what people pay. Please join me in attempting to read and comment as much as possible to keep the costs low! Click 'read' just below the featured box to use our new 'quick read' feature.
We'll see what the cost settles to again. If we all try hard to read (and comment hopefully, though it is not required!) we can keep the cost down together.

Feature box
It is already up to 55 points per click. I really like the idea that people be required to comment on at least 2 featured in order to feature their own. -
ummm.. is 39 points per click supposed to be cheaper? I USED to promote my work and that of others but stopped d/t the high prices...
Here is my suggestion; ALL cost per click be 20 points (no more than 10 clicks allowed= 200 points to promote)and the poems be rotated in and out on an hourly basis. The person promoting their poem MUST comment on 2 other featured poems.
OR just do away with the featured section all together?
I don't even LOOK at the featured box anymore (until today to see what the prices were). -
I suggested this before, but I'll give it another crack.
Change the point system for featured. I like points for rewarding peoples work, competitions, etc. But I think featured should be based of a ratio (or even ratio AND points).
The basic idea is, for every "Click" you want featured, you need to read (and comment) on say 3 featured poems.
This would increase featured turn over, increase comments, remove inflation and should keep everyone happy. -
Two days later:
Casual = 39
Critical = 23
Not bad, considering how high these numbers were a week ago. -
So, how is learning about inflation going for you?

I love everyones comments.. and the simple truth is we all love to write.. thats why we're here to begin with.. and we all love to have other people read our work and comment on them specially since they mean something to us. so we should all just keep that thought in mind and maybe then we will all comment others people works more often.

suggestion
Im glad you did this. I spent about 200 points to only get one comment. I don't understand why no one wants to comment. I always reciprocate by thanking them and reading one of their works.
It would be nice if all felt this way. Maybe the cost should be reversed somehow if they dont comment. I wouldn't even mind if they were given a warning. That way maybe they'd understand the importance.
Another idea I'd like to present is next to the name maybe a code to show what type work it is. Ei: a (love) b (sad) ect... That way people would have a little more info and might choose more wisely. I would really like this.
As always keep up the good work Kevin, this is a great site. Thanks Rose -

If you hold your cursor over the poem title on the front page features, it will tell you the categories that the author put the poem into.

Way to go uncle Kevin
nice work Bossman! to all you doubters who think Kevin is just here for the money and the glory
this just shows that Kevin is trying to build a community that works and his constant retooling of things both big and small shows that he is commited to keeping this the best site on the Net. I have travelled to many sites and found this one to be the standard by which the bar is set. no other site offers what this site does- say what you want- if you want a poetry site that is also a community of many tight knit groups all striving to better themselves as writers, then thhis is it- hands down- kudos Kevin- great feature

I like this idea of starting from scratch. It would be great if we did this once a week at a preset time! I am curious if more people are reading and commenting on the poems... I like the "read" feature!
Thanks again Kevin... -
It's already up to 30
Maybe a base amount that people can feature? Like... four at a time, ten clicks (or even 20) per feature. When they add another one, the oldest one is removed and refunded, so they can't go above four at a time,
just a thought....

That seems reasonable. It has been so long since I paid any attention that I didn't realize people were featuring that many at a time.
I am starting to think it should just automatically reset whenever it hits 40 - that would make it an interesting spectator sport, as well, don't you think?

Critical = 14
Casual = 30
After almost a day. This seems to be working. -
A thought,
How about applying a time limit to each feature, after (say) 4 hours the feature self cancels and unused points are returned. Or maybe unused points AREN'T returned. That should dissuade featuring a few highly read poems (and yes I have one so I'm guilty) which are not cleared quickly from the box. -
maybe it would be a good idea, with keeping the featured poems low to limit how many each person can feature per week?
-
I quite like this idea, but I was wondering: when using the "Read" function, does this count as a click so that people get charged for it?
-
Oh good! I hoped you might give Scott's idea a go when I read it, seemed worth a try to me too. Hope it works
-
Great Idea Kevin!
-
This is a really good idea.. I like it! thanks for letting us know
-
Eh, after 6 hours its only up to 24. Is that a good thing?
Well, I'm not sure. -
-
give it time it'll build back up again
-
-
ummm ok
-
sounds good.
-
Sounds cool.
-
This is a great idea, Kevin. Perhaps it could be done on a regular basis, maybe every two weeks. This would have the effect that "old" features would not clutter up the features box. And it would keep the cost per feature down permanently.
-
Awh
I like this, it meant I could feature my work more cheaply, but no one commented on it
-
thanks!

I wonder how many times those who buy features read the featured poems?
I have been trying to make it a policy lately to only buy features after reading at least one of the poems in the box. Hard at times since I never comment on poems marked spiritual and some days that has been all of them.
I wonder if there is some way of requiring those who bid to have read first. -
cross your fingers
if we all work together it will work

I'm looking forward to this experiment

Kevin, you're awesome!
