This column is here to explain to quotes editors what they need to do. It is also for members who might be interested in a position at the site. Please send me a message if you want to apply to be a quotes editor.

At FindQuotations right now, there isn’t a whole lot of moderator work to do like there is at AllPoetry. The three main things to do right now are:
a. fixing quote’s categories
b. finding new Quotes
c. verifying new quotes. If you are interested in helping out at FQ, please either click on "Help Edit" at the bottom of FindQuotations or click the following link: http://www.findquotations.com/home/apply
1.) FIXING QUOTE’S CATEGORIES
a. Under the moderator links, the first link is “too many cats” which takes you to this link: findquotations.com/quote/too_many
b. When the site was started, we used an algorithm to guess categories to put it in based on words that were in it. A lot of the quotes are in too many categories or are in the wrong categories. The job is to go through and fix all of the quotes so they are in the right place.
c. To edit the quotes, either click on the categories that you want to keep or click on the "Remove all but" and it will then change to "Remove category." This second way will just remove certain categories. If there is a category that it belongs in, but it isn’t already put with the quote, just click edit and you can add the categories to that quote.
2.) FINDING NEW QUOTES
Google as well as many other search engine sites like MSN Live, is an amazing place to find new quotes. There are over 20,000 quotes on the FindQuotations already, but there are always more quotes to add. Feel free to look for new quotes and add them to the site.
3.) VERIFYING NEW QUOTES
Under "Moderator Links" there is a link that says: "verify quotes". Here’s the link: findquotations.com/admin/verify before verifying quotes, make sure the quote fits on the site (no over use of vulgar language, etc.), and put the quote in the appropriate categories. To add quotes to category, you'll need to go under the quotes author and find the quote and then click edit. Clicking edit on the /verify page won’t ever open up the box to change the quote. Also, another thing to do before verifying is to check if the author is currently on the site under a different name (spelling error, abbreviated name, using middle initial, categories combined with author's names, etc.).
