Tutorial: Double Layer Embossing

New tutorial for graphic makers

UNFINISHED; WILL RETURN TO ADD PROPER IMAGES

Well, I’ve returned once again with a simple, quick way to double layering and emboss- or rather give the illusion of embossing without having to go through so many steps.   In other words, not only will there be fewer steps involved but hinting the illusion of embossing will become all the more fun!

The only program you will be using for this will be Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9 from the makers of Corel. To begin with, open your Paint Shop Pro program.

Your screen will look like this:
(I’m using the PSP 9 version)

(Note: Any version of Jasc Paint Shop Pro will do)

Now….
Open file- new image

If you notice, see how I kept the dimensions at 500 for both the width and height however, you may wish to change it to what suits you the best. Next you will then need to choose a texture- preferably one that is not too overwhelming to the eye but yet still subtle enough to see. To do this, you will need to choose a color that will allow for the texture to be seen visibly- making an instant patterned texture.

(Make sure that the box is checked for your texture)

Press/Click OK

This will take you back to your newly made New Image.

Click OK

At this point your screen should look like this:

Notice how the image is labeled by default Raster 1.

To merge, go to LAYERS, then MERGE,

and click on MERGE ALL (FLATTEN)

Now at this point, your Raster Image-

now merged flatten- has become Image 1 (now merged)

Your next step is to click on the paint bucket located on the lower left hand side of your PSP window.  Click on it; to make sure that the button has been clicked on, simply move your mouse onto the image and you’ll see how the mouse has now turned into a shaded version of the spilling paint bucket with a ‘plus sign’.  Once this is done, you’ll be able to use your colors to the second layer.

Finally!  We’re reaching for the fun parts of this tutorial!!  YAY!

Now comes the fun part of creating the secondary layer. To do this, click on the top square of your color pallet, choose a color matching as close to your image taking care to also choosing a different texture to lay over top the original image. (Notice how I used a purple satin solid texture to overlay on top of the textured image) But more importantly, make sure that the solid color is either exactly the same color or a not too lighter version of that color; and don’t forget to make sure that the little square next to your texture box is check.
