I’ll just jump right into this, since you don’t need a rundown of everyone who’s been eliminated ‘cause you guys drop like flies when a project that involves something other than writing an individual poem.
I asked you all to find a partner. Each group will be required to pick the prompt which you will write from. There are six prompts, five teams. You get my drift. [yes, I wanted to give everyone at least a *choice*] There is another condition to each prompt that will be posted after everyone picks a prompt.
The prompts are ones that each have a different meaning to me & will cover a range of the different types of inspiration:
1. “Connor” [Pu/Johanna]
2. “textual relations” [Cassie/Stef/Angie, Cassie picked]
3. apple [Chandni/Kevin]
4. "Cavanaugh Park" by Something Corporate [Christina/Marty]
5. “If love is a chemical
reaction, then let my world
turn to
pollution.” [quoted from myself, thanks. ] [Nate/Tyler]
Yet to be on a team: Nate, Tyler, Stef, Angie & Cassie.
If you guys don’t get your groups together by tomorrow, Friday, May 23rd at 3:00pm [my creative writing class], then I will assign them for you & I will pick the prompt for you. You guys can all get on in a day. I gave you a day’s notice.
Note: If you didn't pick up on it, comment the column with your group & the prompt of your choice. First come, first serve as always. If someone doesn't claim a group of three, the group will be formed with the last three people to respond.
See you back here once the prompts & teams are formed, so you can get the next set of information.

That was your original work, but as I promised, there is a twist. First of all, I kept this bit of information from you guys:
You will be writing against your partner.
You each will be required to pen a poem. I will judge the poems & the better of the two will be the winner, the other the loser, who will be up for elimination.
This won't be as easy as just writing a poem of your choice. You will also be completing in a specific style or form.
For Pu & Johanna
sonnet. You don't have to use meter, because I personally cannot do it, but I do expect a 10 syllable, abab, cdcd, efef, gg, Shakespearean style sonnet. Only one sonnet.
Cassie, Stef & Angie...
double nonet. I want two nonet's. Make it so I won't vomit from them.
Chandni & Kevin gets:
10 word quickie. No time limit, but 10 words. Only one.
Christina & Marty...
"deconstructed verse" as I call it, or this new form of "prose." no line limit.
& finally, Tyler & Nate. :] The best for last:
dirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrty p.r.e.t.t.y.
Yep. Dirty pretty. Do it. bring a new face to it.
HAHA. You all probably hate me now.

But you're not done writing this week. oh no. We will be visiting slam once again. Once. again. For the winners & the losers of the matches, you will be competing again.
This time, it's a
haiku deathmatch.

That means, you will need to write 3 haiku for this slam. 17 syllables, no more, no less. Slam haiku are usually witty or deep. This means, DO NOT GIVE ME A BUNCH OF NATURE POEMS. Those suck. I want creative verses done in 17, 5-7-5, syllables.
The "duel" poems will be due Tuesday, May 27th at 11:59PM. I will judge those & we will slam on that Friday. So your death 'ku are due Thursday, May 29th at 11:59PM. I will pick the order of the poems at random. The poet with the lowest total score in the loser's bout will be going home.
If you are confused by any forms, please consult shadow poetry for rules & such.
I hope I won't have to question syllable counts, but if there is an issue, I'll be using http://www.wordcalc.com/ .
I hope this didn't go by too quick for you guys, but there you go. That's your assignment. GO.
Any questions, comment the column or IM/Message me.
Good luck guys. :]
