the ocean was wrinkled

when the gull flourished

and late afternoon

was the salty tongue

of the wind

she rose with the gale

and the night bowed

as she spread her sail

a ghostly sun died

in a pale moon's calling

and she was

the sea-torn summoner

on a violet midnight

above arrogant

hollow songs

of the sea
