This first round has been an interesting one, to say the least. Some of you stepped up & some of you stepped down.
Rae was one of those to literally step down, due to some personal issues.
On the other hand, some groups were able to craft poems that went outside the box, were sprinkled with delicate images & had one liners that I remember even while writing this column.
Danielle & Hellen did not get their poem in on time, but was submitted before the 4pm late deadline. As their fee persay, since they turned in their individual poems, the only stipulation is that their collab cannot be considered for one of the prizes this week but can be subject to elimination if it was of poor quality.
Christina & Ryan & Bri & Stef didn’t turn in collaborations at all. I have talked to both Christina & Stef though & they attempted to make honest work on the poems. I know for a fact that Ryan has been on very little these last two weeks & it’s uncharacteristic of him. As for Bri, I am not sure, but I know that she has not been on when I’m on & has not been in my little favorites’ area either.
Christina & Stef did turn in personal writes though, as Ryan & Bri did not. This is how the situation will be handled.
Christina & Stef will be put in the bottom group of poets & subject to elimination, based on their individual writes. Along with them will be the bottom two groups from this round’s collaborations. They too will be eligible for elimination based on your votes, along with one person in my judge’s opinion.
As for Ryan & Bri, they will be held to a different vote. Along with your secret ballot, you will decide wither each of them should be allowed to stay in the contest. Actually, since I have yet to hear anything out of Chelsea, since the beginning of the round, she will also be held to this vote. [Edit: She has left the contest, this is null.] It also just occurred to me that Aruna didn’t turn in a poem either. She will be there also.
It will be done in a majority-rules fashion. You will vote “yes” they should stay or “no” they should be eliminated, on an individual basis. If this doesn’t make sense, see the ballot at the end of the column.
Top poets & collaborations will be posted with the results column, but now it’s time for the bottom collaborations. In no particular order, the following poets are safe.
Cassie/Marty
Danielle/Hellen
Justin/Kevin
Tyler
Chandni/Shirley
Angie/Pu
Esha/Matt
& we are down to the final three groups. The final group that is safe wasn’t so when I first started typing this column, but in a last minute decision, my mind has roamed & come to a decision. The final safe group is:
Melissa/Nate
That means Meg/Wayne & Aurdi/Johanna, you are both eligible for elimination. All four of you are uber talented writers, but in these collaborations, you failed to truly impress me & leave me with a positive impression.
The elimination will work like this:
You all will have until 12AM CST on Tuesday, April 22nd to turn in your votes. You will be voting on two issues. The first is on the individual poets & if you think they should be allowed to stay in the competition. The second is on which of the bottom six poets you think had the weakest individual poem. Do not take into account Christina & Stef did not turn in collaborations. Base it off the poems [at least, in a perfect world, you should.
] Also, voting is mandatory. There will be no “I can’t vote ‘cause it’s too hard.” Just do it. It’s part of the contest. Make the executive decision. All votes will be kept private. Actually, I just thought of a way to make sure you guys know your vote has been counted. Please include a codeword with your vote. It will be your codeword for the contest. Make it something random enough that people can’t guess. Or something.
Your messaged vote should look something like this [in theory]:
1. Aruna [yes/no]
2. Bri [yes/no]
3. Ryan [yes/no]
4. Audri, Christina, Johanna, Meg, Stef, Wayne.
5. Codeword
I know, lots of moral decisions to make. Takes a bit of a load off of my shoulders. I will judge the bottom six poets also & pick one for elimination. I have to say, this is hard for me because I have a respect & a personal friendship with some of you.
Again, all votes must be in by 12AM CST, Tuesday April 22nd. Then, I will post individual winners, along with the top collabs.
I will post your collab comments in the morning. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise. If I have missed anything, please let me know, for this is my first nomination column. If you have the immunity/pardon pass, it must be used by 12AM CST, Monday April 21st. I have to get off, so if I have made a mistake or something is unclear, catch me on AIM before I am asleep, or I will answer your question when I awake in the morning.
Note #1: Chelsea has decided to leave the contest.
Good luck guys.
-Chase

I feel really bad about that and like I let her down
