How To Make Your Basic Table ( Gold Members )

This column will help you learn some more things about html and tables.

First this column is a basic one. I am not talking about the cellpading, etc yet that will be in another column.  This is just to help you learn more about tables.

I do apologize for the shots being small. Hope that you can still learn tho.

1. First Click the " Show text Buttons "

i.e. -

2. The table is right in the middle of the arrows.

3. Click on the table.

4. After clicking it you'll see

5. You can  make columns with the table.
i.e. This has one column :
http://allpoetry.com/poem/4046445
Columns are lines that go up and down. Some people use columns to seperate an image or poem.
i.e. See the picture below that has one column going up and down.
You can insert the picture using the button that has the green tree on the bottom row.

6. Then you can add rows that go from side to side.
Some people like doing that instead of using the lines that go up and down.
It all depends on the poem you're working on.
This is what a row is :

7. Then you can pick a border.
That is your frame for the poem.
You can pick how thick you want the border to be.
I don't usually do mine higher then five...but I have seen other borders thicker.
Here is where the border is located :

Currently in this poem below  I have the column and row both set at one and the border at 3
http://allpoetry.com/poem/4036063

Now in order for you to get color with your border go to your advance options right next to general.
Click on Advance.

On the advance you'll  see background image
If you want your background to be a color or image that's not there then upload your picture/graphic to your images.
Then insert the link in that.

To get color around the border click ' Border Color '
Click the right white square and your colors will pop up. It's very important after you pick your color to click  Apply..
The same goes with the background color with your poem. Always click Apply.

After you're done getting your background and border colors done then click Insert down at the bottom and your new table should pop up.

If you want to use the html coding again click on " Show Rich Text Buttons " Save it in your notepad or email it to yourself.

Tables can really complement poem if done the right way. Not all people like tables and that's fine.

In order to use tables and such you need to be a gold member. This tutorial ALSO works for your Bio. You can make and create tables for your bio like that would be great to make a table with your recommended poets on the site etc.

Thanks for reading!

On the columns, and on the policy boards you can't use the html unless if you script the coding yourself...
Right now it can only be done in comments/contests/author pages/and postings.

    Thanks!

I already know how to make tables but it's a great help to those who don't know how. I know I've searched sometimes looking for an answer, would be great if all these columns were in one place, like on a "Help-author page" where everyone knew to look for "How-to" info. Thanks for wanting to help out folk here!

Brilliant tutorial, presented well, easily followed and understood, and graphically enhanced by screen shots. It's well seen who has been doing a lot of work to help members learn new tricks. Now to see if I listened to the teacher I'm offf to try a table or two. Thanks Kari

      Thanks for the tip

I once saw an acrostic poem that ran diagonally and left to right, sort of like a crossword puzzle, I have been wondering how to keep things lined up carefully. If I'm understanding the concept at all, it's sort of like placing a picture frame around your work so that the site treats the poem more like a picture than a set of words, preserving the alignment the way you typed it? Thanks!!
