Just a few pics from Florida but I only have a silver membership now so I will have to post a few of these at a time lol
This is Bathtub Reef, it's gorgeous and interesting, here is a link to get further information.
Coral reefs are actually made by coral polyps to serve as an exoskeleton. Bathtub reef, however, is made by worms. These worms ingest sand and extract nutrients. Afterward, the sand is excreted and hardens.
Over time, this process has created a very small barrier reef a hundred feet from shore.
The calm water created on the inside of the reef provides a wonderful place for children to adapt to the ocean and play safely. Lifeguards watch from the beach to provide assurance and assistance when needed.
Bathtub Beach is the southernmost public beach in Martin County. Turn south at the traffic light in front of Indian River Plantation. Follow Macarthur Blvd as it winds southward on the thin strip of land separating the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.
There are three entrances to Bathtub’s huge sandy parking lot. The beach itself is protected by Bathtub Reef. The reef creates a lagoon off the shore, making this the best beach option for children.
