THE TRIBES!

The tribes have been assigned. There is two of them with nine members each. I choose them completely randomly by going down the last round’s finalists list and going one, two, one, two.

I suggest you get used to these people! Last season we had issues with tribe work, I want this season to be clean. It is a very important aspect I feel, to be able to work with other poets.

THE CHALLENGE!

This next challenge is meant to get you to focus on the beginning of teamwork. Working together as if you were one monstrous poet, that’s what I want.

It’ll also get you to focus on people, creating a person, a character. Because this is exactly what you’re doing.

I want the tribe, all nine members as a whole, to create a poem illustrating a character. Here are some good points I want to focus on when creating the character.

-Include a background (family, situations, etc) to show why they are today
-Describe appearance in a poetic way (optional, but good advice; let their appearance show who they are as a person
-Describe their emotions, their feelings
-Show beliefs
-Put them in a snapshot and give it meaning (ie: girl watching the sunset… though, be more original then that)
-Twist the ending (for example if the character is depressed, give a light of hope at the ending; if the character is happy shed a light of darkness at the end)

If you do a good job with creating this the judges will feel as though they are this character when reading.

Now, to make it additionally harder, I want to make this a little more challenging. In the piece, you must include 5 of the 9 author’s names as phrases (you may want to choose the easier ones, its up to you).

Ie:
The cup crazy coffee
looked out to see
ten thousand cicadas
flying

(Your allowed to changed them a little, like spaces with cup crazy, etc).

Also, I am going to give you a picture that should help/impact/inspire the beginnings of your character.

Also, each poet in the group should contribute four lines (anywhere’s in the piece), no more no less. Though, the ending of the poem is allowed to be a mixture of everyone.

Everyone should help editing too.



THE JUDGING RUBRIC!

This round is the first round that the judging rubric is introduced. The judging rubric changes from challenge/round to round based on specific outcomes for that round.

This rounds judging rubric will be based on the team’s piece. Each judge will do a judging rubric for both pieces.


Piece seems as if it were written by one poet, not nine: /10
Used picture prompt & usernames well: /10
Creativity, originality: /30
Phrasing, wording, etc: /20
Imagery: /30
Other poetic devices: /15
Characterization (followed suggestions): /50
Readability, connection to piece/character: /50
Overall personal opinion on showcased talent: /25
TOTAL: /240


Then, all four judging rubrics are taken for each piece. The highest rated total is dropped and lowest rated total is dropped for each piece, so were left with a grand total to be out of 480, and then we have a fair medium for each piece.



THE ELIMINATION!

The tribe who receives the overall lower score out of the two is then put on the block. All nine contestants in the loosing tribe will be given TWO DAYS to write a 10 – 30 lined poem. The judges will then read all the pieces and vote for two contestants who they think should leave the game. The two contestants with the lowest score will be eliminated from the game.


THE REWARD!

The winning tribe will have a contest opened for them in which they are allowed to write new pieces for. Then, just like a normal contest, they will be rewarded trophies.
