I hope to develop this before long into an historical essay.

Commander-in-Chief, the President of the United States was first Roosevelt, then Truman.
Every military person knows that the top of the chain of command is the President, who is also the Commander-in-Chief.
In Europe, Eisenhower.
In the Pacific among the Army, MacArthur.
For the Navy, I think it was Admiral Doolittle but am not sure.
Marines, man, I forget.

When you do so, remember who won WW2. No it was not the British. It was certainly not the Americans. It was the Russians who conquered the German army. And the Russians won the peace. It was only 45 years later in 1989 that the Russians finally lost.

Typically European view...the Japanese, of course, simply laid down arms with Hitler and the bombs that actually stopped that aggression were "just spite." More fuel to denigrate the Americans and pretend that Europe never needed rescuing.
What a comforting notion...if your ego depends on denigrating the United States. -

Dear Deric or Eric, You have sadly got everything wrong. I have not "denigrated" Americans. They do that enough for themselves thus I don't need to bother.
If you knew anything about history except a few warped bits gleaned from Hollywood war films, you would know that what I wrote was correct. Germany was defeated by the force of Soviet arms. The Allied invasion via Normandy was merely a supporting action. If the British, Canadians and Americans hadn't invaded from the West, the Soviets would have got to the English Channel.
The Americans won the war against Japan, but only via the A-bomb, thus ushering in a Brave New World of horror.
Perhaps if you took your silly hat off, you might think more clearly.
Yours cordially,
Edna. -

Edna...why lie? You have spent most of every post of yours I've read over the years denigrating America and Americans. You do this in lieu of having a damn thing worthwhile to say.
Rewrite history to your heart's content...there'll always be some pathetic idiot ready to believe it, and I'm sure you find a wealth of bolstering for your ego in that...but it changes nothing.
As for ushering in the atomic era...you should be on your knees (a familiar position, I'm sure) thanking your lucky stars that America beat the Soviets to that feat.
