I have never understood the wine thing. It always seemed like grape juice gone bad. Give me some good German Dinkelaker and I will follow you home.

    Eat drink and be merry

I drink a glass to the girls who do and a glass to the girls who don't. But I will drink all the more to the one who tells me: I usually don't but for you my dear I just might. (an old saying I heard years ago)

A marvellous column Von. The poems chosen were excellent and well varied showing the individual poets to good effect and the illustrations complimented the piece too.
Interesting to notice how often the "booze" and the "birds" seemed to be coupled together (if you'll pardon the phrase) by this bunch of male writers.

Haven't had time to check out all these Old Poets yet but it sounds like Belloc knew his wine. You don't hear much about Belloc any more. Isn't he the one who said the his sins were scarlet but his books were read? And he wrote those poems about animals. Hope OldPoetry will be imputting some more of his pieces.

Thanks for the column. I shall return.
