Member Of The Month For Dec. Goes To :

Friday

Congrats !!!!!

Info about Friday :

Where did you grow up?

I was born in QLD Australia but "grew up" most when I moved to the ACT at 13 after living in New Zealand for a year. I moved back to QLD for a year before deciding that it was all a bad idea, and I've been living in the ACT ever since.

What is the first thing you remember that perked your interest in writing?

Reading "The Silver Brumby" by Elyne Mitchell when I was about 9 perked my interest in books in general but I didn't start writing until I was 13, and that was just an out of the blue "I'll write a poem". From then on it didn't stop and developed into an obsession of sorts.

Did you go to college/university?

I don't plan on going to college. Luckily for me Australia has several options outside of university for study.

Outside of college, how have you educated yourself beyond secondary school?

Books, and lots of them.

What's your favorite color?

Fluro green

Food?

Any sort of pasta, in fact almost all italian.

Pastime?

Watching movies with my partner, writing, or reading.

Music?

I listen to just about everything, so a favourite one is hard to find.

Poet ?

So many of the poets and poetesses here at AP are amazing (whether compared to each other or published poets), I really couldn't pick a favourite if I tried.

TV show?

Futurama.

Movie?

Alice In Wonderland or White Oleander

Book?

Alice 's Adventures in Wonderland and Though the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There. I couldn't chose one or the other.

About Your Life On All Poetry

Give me a brief rundown of your history on AP. In other words, how did you get here?

I think I found AllPoetry simply by searching poetry websites on the web and loved what I saw in seconds. From there I just didn't go away lol. Now I have an amazing group of friends whom I love and admire.

How long have you been a member of All Poetry?

I joined on the 15 th July 2006, so getting close to a year and a half now.

About Your Poetry :

When did you first begin to write?
When I was 13, out of the blue. I started writing end line rhyme but quickly realised how that could limit me, so now I write mostly freeverse.

What kind of poetry do you write the most? Dark, Sensual, Etc.

I use to only write darker pieces but lately I've been trying to branch out a little more.

Who are your influences?
All of the amazing poets and poetesses at AP. I suppose my other influences would be life itself and just the way I'm feeling at the time.

What feeds your desire to continue writing poetry ?

I couldn't imagine not writing. It's something I do everyday so to not write would be like losing a part of myself, corny as that sounds.

General :

Hobbies?

Writing (obviously), reading, ice skating with friends, oh and I love road trips and picnics.

Pets?

My kitten: Wednesday, my rat: Edana, and my puppy: Anya.

Talents?

Umm, you know I don't know if I have any. I suppose I can cook reasonably well, and I can make people laugh…

Jobs?

I'm about to finish high school (only a few days left) and from there I'm going into Administration.

What advice would you give to growing poets?

Never say no to criticism. I know that I use to be a bit touchy when it came to criticism but I now realise how much it had helped me to grow. Take into consideration what other people think about your poetry.

Anything else you can think of.

Never give up. It is the unfortunate nature of human beings to kick people while they are down, don't give them the satisfaction of being able to do it to you.

A Poem that she wrote :

TheEndOfTheBeginning

© Friday

Kneeling on crying glass,
she is the furthest thing
from a prayer,

still she digs her nails into earth,
holding onto half formed crucifixes
and expectations.

Grayscale pulls the ink from her eyes,
naming her sinner and saint.
Echoing tongues demand eulogies,
while cramping hands plead for skin.

Vermillion skies are blinded
by eternities in blinks
and tendons swearing white.

She holds onto nothing but the sky.

Yet again, another brilliant insight to the poet behind the words. Knowing and finding out the details that progress into the poetry that transpires onto the pages of AP.

The exapmled write included, is a very cleverly thought out piece, and the image created is clearly seen.

Well done to you Friday, and congratulations.

ACT stands for Australian Capital Territory.
I just realised that to someone outside Australia it might not make much sense
