Rhyming Forms: Terzanelle
Since I have covered both the Villanelle and the Terza Rima forms, I'll now briefly touch upon the Terzaelle. The Terzanelle is a form that merges the concepts of the Terza Rima and the Villanelle to create a new and unique form of poetry.
The Terzanelle has 19 lines like the Villanelle rather than the endless number of lines that could be written in a Terza Rima. Also, like the Villanelle, the Terzanelle has 5 tercets (3 line stanzas) and a concluding quatrain (4 line stanza) which can be achieve in two ways.
However, the Terzanelle has a rhyme scheme that progresses much like the Terza Rima except that it has some 6 refrain lines that are worked into the scheme, much more complicated than the mere two of a Villanelle and none in the Terza Rima.
The rhyme scheme is as follows:
A
B

Ending Type 1:

The Terzanelle is written in Iambic Pentameter in many cases. If you choose to play with the syllabic or metrical feet in a terzanelle it is a good idea to keep the lines at least the same syllabic count.
