Stop the Silence

We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.

From "Letter from Birmingham Jail," April 16, 1963

Martin Luther King Jr.
Can we not see that is no longer acceptable to remain silent. We have come to the point when we must say no more. This is it. I draw the line here no further. We can no longer accept offhanded remarks such as what Don Imus has spouted.

Finally enough was enough and they fired him. But still all those people who should have said something and didnt. To see that nothing was done until they realized they were going to loose money.

We must speak out against such racism and prejudice. If we don't where will that lead our children. The time is now that we come together as one people, not blacks not whites not spanish, asian, german, or what have you but as americans who will no longer tolerate such indignaties. We will not longer let these words stain our hearts and impune our character. We must take swift action against those who do not, cannot, or will not be responsible for their actions.

We need to teach our children to speak with one voice against hate and prejudice. Because it all comes and is born from fear. I pray to see the day when there are no longer such hatefull words in our vocabularies and that such prejudice is nothing more than ancient history.

I hope you will all join with me in fighting against this evil and everyone who reads this will take it to heart. No longer will we be silent!

A brillient write packed full of truth and sound advice. Such a large under-taking. But I say you are right...we need to start where we can and teach our children to be accepting and non-bias. These precious children are indeed our future. Let's all hope and pray that their tomorrows will be much better than our past!

    Its In The Teachings

Freedom of speach is harmless if one has been taught respect for others and to show love to those unfortunate that they never had the teachings from their elders that knew right from wrong. I was taught you show respect to all around you at all times for without it you truly become soiled to the habits of others. I see the evils that are being sung and shown on our tv and radios and for them to stay on they have to have listeners and watchers. Its time we leave it all behind and show our children now that without love and respect your soul will become lost as so many are today. God is near take his hand and learn what true happiness can bring.

I echo your thoughts, each of us has a personal responsibility as to what we leave others with,no one should perpetuate racist remarks or negativity to a creed whatever that maybe.
The only way to erase the hate is to not accept the unacceptable by peaceful means and poignant words that do not punch to wound but have the punch to make a point that we all should respect.
I admire the aims of erase the hate, let's all pursue positivity, harmony and unity, peace from across the pond,Yvette
