Featured Inflation Fighters

Tired of the high cost of promoting your poetry in the featured box? Come be part of the solution.
Ever look at the featured list and wish you could afford to promote your poetry without spending every single point you have at your disposal?

Well, there is something you can do to help. There is a new group in town called the "Featured Inflation Fighters". We are a solution oriented group who has decided to be proactive in our attempts to bring the cost of promotion down.

"How do we do this?" you may ask.

The answer is simple. We read and leave comments on featured poetry. We leave a meaningful comment of one hundred characters or more on as many featured pieces as we are able to each day. Our motivation is simply, if the list moves and authors are getting the feedback they are looking for, there will be less need for an author to bid outrageous amounts of points in order to appear higher on the list.

We have no quotas and we have very few rules.

WE DO NOT NINJA CLICK on featured pieces without leaving a comment because we realize how many points it takes to feature a poem and when it comes our turn to feature, we want some feedback and not just useless expense.

We resist the urge to comment with the one line, "Hey, I like this" or "Ack, this stinks". We do this because we realize that when a poet spends big points to feature, it is usually because he wants to know what we actually think about the poem.

We applaud things we deem applaudable and we criticize constructively without being demeaning. We try to be part of the solution rather than simply a whine in the ears of the community.

As a result, we earn lots of points for our own promotions and hope that those we have commented on return the favor when our write hits the list. We also realize that by setting a standard, we prompt other poets around the site to do the same.

We only have 3 rules

1. Leave a meaningful comment of 100 characters or more on as many featured pieces as you have time to.

2. Be constructive if you criticize.

3. Never ninja click a featured piece. Always leave a comment. Your points bank will thank you for it and so will the author.

This is a community wide effort to help make AllPoetry a better and more rewarding place to share our writing and get feedback from our fellow poets. If you would like to be a part of the effort and earn yourself some points while doing it then apply here

http://allpoetry.com/group/info/Featured+Inflation+Fighters

We look forward to meeting you and we thank you for your participation.

Happy reading to all

This is a truly wonderful idea. Though many say it can never help, every little bit makes a difference, and I commend you for it. I'll try to do this on my own when I get the chance

Great idea! I'm guilty of what you call "ninja clicking," but I'm new and had no idea it cost points to feature poems! Oops. Thanks for this; I'll make sure to leave comments on featured poems next time!

Don't feel bad. Nearly all of us inadvertantly do that when we are new around here. The great thing about commenting on featured poems is that you get double points for doing so They can really add up.

    Great

way to move things along and I look forward to participating! It is true that promoting is pricey, as with any form of advertising; so indeed is only fitting that elaboration would be warranted.

I hate when people ninja click or leave a three word comment. I work really hard for the points that I have and people just waste them. I hope that this helps!

You know, there are some folks around here who will put you on their block/ignore list for your comments - this has happened to me for being good and helping them to better understand haiku - one of my favourite forms of poetry. I think when one clicks on a poem, one must sooner/later in the same day or the very next, comment on that poem/column/story. Points are the currency of the site and I think one must respect it for it is hard to earn money but easy to squander it. I am in too many groups, so wont be joining right now, but I wish you goodluck with your effort on this front.

Just so you know. We don't have a comment quota set and we won't set one in the future . Any effort is good effort, even if you don't join the group. But don't feel like you have to commit to a bajillion comments or anything if you do decide to join.

I'm not positive this will stop inflation. From an economic standpoint you're simply raising the "actual value" of Featuring to its current "face value" It's a bit like improving the product to suit the standards of its price. People will be a bit happier- but inflation isn't going to go down.

People don't feature based only on actual value. They pick their price according to the highest price on the list at any given time. If top bid is only 15-17 then it is doubtful they will spend more than 18-20. On the other hand, if top price is 28 they will bid 30-40 thus prompting others to go even higher.

Anyway, feel free to join the effort and prove us wrong if you like All effort is appreciated.

    what does "ninja click" mean?

    • Violet Moodswing Greeters member

Ninja click is just a way to say, click on a featured poem without leaving any comment. It is also refered to as "drive by click" and other catchy phrases

It becomes annoying to an author who features because points in featured he/she pays points per click. Most poets feature to get more feedback on a write by folks who don't normally read them. Featuring never guarantees you will get comments, but it is quite frustrating for some who have all their hard earned points eaten by the "click fairies" who never comment

While I support your cause, and definitely agree that ninja clicking is poor manners...I'm not convinced that the price of featuring has been inflated. In "economic terms" we now have more earning power than in the old days on AP, as we get more points for commenting, and for applause than before. If we get more points, it only makes sense that we would be willing to spend more to feature. I think the relative cost (ie the amount of effort to earn the points) is about the same as it was when I joined a year ago. But I would definitely like to see more people commenting on featured poems, and will try my best to find the time to do more myself.

Ahhh, but we only spend as many points as we need to. Not many folks bid 30 if the top price is 17. It just doesnt make sense to do so. If the list is moving quickly enough then the price does not ever have time to reach 30-50.

Anyway, it is worth a try and it doesnt cost us anything to give it a whirl.

I tend to shy away from the featured box, I am not up on all the forms and what I call the technical aspects..I can only comment on how a poem makes me feel, the choice of words, how it flows, the message and whether or not I like it. The time or two I have offered contructive comments, I've had my head bitten off. Sadly, most of the biters could not even spell their way out of a paper bag.

    • Violet Moodswing Greeters member

Lol, that can sometimes be expected of us "sensitive poet types" Some of those same folks will grow a thicker skin and develope a taste aversion brought on by "head biting"

I know that when I was new, I would get a little bent when someone couldn't "get" what I was trying to convey, but as a result, my work has gotten better at targeting the audience I want to reach.

If someone puts their poem into a public space on the site to get it noticed, then let it be on them if they decide to get upset if someone points out things that might make the write more effective. After all, it is at my discretion whether or not I take any of the advice I am given.

As long as you arent being abusive and insulting somehow, then it is perfectly within your right to give an honest oppinion.

    Very Good

I hve been ninja click so I no longer do the feature box. When I do go to the feature area I always leave a comment. Try to make it as meainingful as I can. Good luck on the group. I will have to see how much time I have I belong to someother groups it sounds like a way to help let me review my time and groups then get back to you.
I think it a very good idea to get as many people as you can to spread the word. To help others get read it helps all of us.
    thank you

Just for information sake, we don't have any quotas on how many featureds you have to comment on. Hopefully if we get enough of us together in the effort, every effort will add up. Hopefully awareness of how featured works will grow and more people around the site will notice the featured box again and start giving more feedback to the authors who feature.

All effort is appreciated and none is too small

This is a great column I actually surprised that there are poets who *ninja click* that's so mean!!! And I think that should go for poems that aren't in the featured box too! if you click it read it! it's only the nice thing to do!! I hope Kevin sees this and recognizes the group for this positive effort!

Matt, the group really is not about forcing people to comment. We have to have the "ninja click" rule in effect in the group because we are a group about clicking and commenting on featureds. We don't want to encourage folks to join who would simply ninja click all the features to bump them off the list.

It is actually easy to read pieces from the featured list without commenting and without eating the authors points.

When you click on add yours at the bottom of the featured box, you will find a link to "all featureds" in the top right hand margin of the page it takes you to. This link takes you to the top 75 featured list. From that list you can click on the authors name rather than the poem link and find the poem on their authors page. Clicking the poem from their author's page does not count toward their featured cost.

The who idea of our group is to get more folks around the site clicking and commenting on featureds so the author gets the feedback they want and the featured list moves so that more stuff shows.

Hope that makes our purpose a bit clearer

This is a bit silly. The only way to bring down the cost of featuring a poem is to organise a club which agrees never to feature for more than X points.

I think you are being silly. The only way your idea would work is if every member of this site was in that group. Is that a reasonable idea? No because not everyone would join. Someone out there would decide not to and would pay to feature at the higher amount which would force someone else to feature higher than that, etc. etc. and so eventually everyone is featuring high like it is now.

The reason that the featured box is so high in the first place is that no one is commenting. If there is a group of individuals like this one who are consistently commenting on poems, you'll see the number to feature drop back down to 15 like how it was half a year ago.

Yeah agree something has to give in this area ... at times i feel like if you cant beat 'em join'em I know there is nothing that can be done to stop the clickers I still think if you click and dont leave a comment you should at least have half the points taken from your our account.....and some crusty poets can be extremely nasty and that is being polite. I know sending tickets really has no effect policy is policy but it leaves a dry taste in your mouth....I hope people get behind this and show support..must admit i will promote but dont enter the feature box since the upgrade......lost ist appeal well and truly.

    Count me in.

I see no reason for the total pts per click to be above 10 ever. Sometimes that seems a bit too high. Of course on the flip side there does seem to be an influx of the same old stuff surfacing in there again. I'll come by and post my app. soon.

Question if you know by chance BU (before upgrade) we could go through the featured list and look at the pieces that were 5pts and up you know the ones that were never destined to reach the top of the list. What happened to that option?

We can only view the top 75 via a link at the top of the right hand margin after you click on the add yours link at the bottom of the featured box. I think it says "all featureds or something similar. Unfortunately the price went so high that the bottom of the top 75 has been 20 rather than 5-10. Hopefully we will get enough folks active where there is no point in featureds being so expensive. Not many people ever bumped the price up to 50 when top price to show was 17.

Great idea! I avoid the featured box because I do know how much it costs the poster. I go through the back door if I see something that catches my eye. That way, if I do not feel I can comments constructively, they have lost no points on me. I know that points mean everything to most on the site; to me, they mean little. I read because I enjoy it, not because someone pays me to do it.

One point I would like to bring up: newbies do not understand the featured box. I know I did not, and I paid for it through two members who chose to let me know in a manner that was unfair and very hurtful. If there was a way to let newbies know about this, I think it would go a long way towards cutting down on some of the blank clicks. Just my opinion.

Hopefully, we will be able to raise awareness before a new person gets caught up in the controversy . I will talk to Kevin and see if maybe we can find a way to get the word out to them.

I think that increasing the amount of feedback poets get overall though will help. It is much easier to take the occasional drive by clicker if you are getting lots of feedback, no?
