Welcome ladies and gents to
Round One
of
Vets vs Rookies
Before we get to your first assignment in this challenge I want to
inform you of a few changes that have taken place over the
last week or so.
Earlier this week one of the poets from the Veteran's Team stepped down and I had to find a replacement. I am happy to say that
last night I was able to find a poet that accepted the open seat,
thus making both teams even once again. The name of the
poet that has stepped up to claim the open seat and join the Vets
is none other than WBIRO!
Now with the teams even once again, this afternoon I was approached and saddened that a member of the Rookie Team had to step down. Nonetheless, I fully understand and respect the reason for having to do so. With that said I now had to find a replacement for the Rookies. I have sent out an IM offering the open seat to Forever Ryan, though I have yet to hear back from him.
If by chance he refuses the seat I will find another yet again.
Nonetheless, I will proceed in posting this round and we will move along just the same.
With all that being said shall begin?
At the end of this round I will be giving out the Immunity passes, one to a poet on each team. If the poets that receive this pass reveal that they hold possession of it it will then become null and void and they will be stripped of it. For further rules in regards to the usage of these passes I refer you back to a previously posted column.
I will also be handing out 2 creativity passes, again one to a poet on each team. You will find the rules of usage for these passes in the same column as the immunity passes. Learn them and know them, especially if you obtain possession of one. I would hate to have to revoke anyone's pass for failure to comply with the dos and don'ts of usage.
At the end of this round the two poets with the lowest scores will be eliminated. When I say the two poets with the lowest score I mean lowest score over all; be it one from each team or both from the same team. I have teams solely on the fact of those familiar with my challenge and those not familiar with it, as well as for team assignments that will follow. Also I completely encourage you to assist one another if and when possible. You may be working to keep your own seat but at the same time it is good sportsmanship to assist others along the way. Who knows you may end up making some friends along the way by doing so.
Now I have assigned each team a team leader. The purpose of a team leader is to help keep things flowing and organized if need be. Your team leader is whom you will seek out if you have any questions in regards to any assignment during any round. It will be the responsibility of the team leader to have the answers to your questions and if not, it is left to them to acquire the answers from me.
If by chance you have a question and the team leader is unavailable and you require the answer as soon as possible feel free to IM me directly or place it on the message board within your own group. Someone else may already have the answer you seek. I, also, am a member in both team groups and will be watching things as they progress.
However, being team leader does NOT make you exempt from elimination. If a leader were to be eliminated another would then be assigned in their place.
Your team leaders are as follows:
Veteran's Team Leader - Poetryality
Rookie's Team Leader - transatlanticism
Now you know whom your leaders are....
For your first assignment I have compiled a list of Mythological creatures and pair you all with just one. What I want from you this round is to take your assigned creature and give me a write based on them.
Now, I do NOT want a write such a fairytale and have you incorporate the creature into it.
What I do want is you to research your creature and get to know it well. The more information you can find on it the more likely it will help you. I want you to pen a piece based on and about that creature.
You can use the creature as a metaphor, I have no problem with that, however I want you to relate this creature to yourself in some way. Perhaps the abilities the creature has is similar to something about you IE: It's temperament is like that of yourself, maybe it has habits that resemble some of your own. Show me the personality of this creature and how it relates to you.
Be creative and imaginative!
Be unique and original!
In your author's comment I want you to place the link to any and all references that you sought to assist you in your research of your assigned creature. IF this information is not in there you will automatically be deducted 15 points.
Keep in mind my listing of major deductions in a previous column.
Know them well, they could very well cost you major points if not followed.
