Uploading and using Custom Backgrounds

Confused with using custom backgrounds?
Here is a step by step guide to help you through the process.

Using your own backgrounds is a great way of enhancing your poem, column or contest.

You can add your background in two ways.

Either

a) You can upload your backgrounds ready to use at a later date.

or

b) You can upload a new one at the time of posting a new poem, column or contest.

*************

1.  To upload a background for use later, first locate your 'Settings' link at the top of the page and click on it.

2.  On the settings page, go down the list and click on the 'Manage your custom backgrounds' link.

3.  This page shows you your current backgrounds in your file.

4.  To the right of the page is a link, to allow you to upload a new background.

5. Click the link which will bring you to a new page where you will be able to upload your background to the site.

6. Click on the 'Browse' button and a grey window will open to allow you to locate your background from where it is stored on your PC.

7.  Once you have made your selection, click on 'Add Background'.

8.  You now need to 'Edit' your background, so that it is ready for later use.

9.  If you are using a border background, you will need to adjust the left hand border width, using the slider.  This will ensure that your text does not overlap the border.

10.  Next, using the colour chart, select the colour which most closely resembles the colour of your background.

This is used to make sure text is readable when choosing text colors.

Last of all, you can opt to make your background available as a system background for other members to use by placing it iin a sutable category.

Finally click on 'Edit Background'

Your background will now be listed in your background file ready for use.

***************

Adding a background to a post is done in one of two ways.

1.  At the time of posting a poem/column etc

When you click submit, you will next see the page where you can choose how to add a background.

To upload a new background, click on the 'New' link, and then follow the procedure as above.

To use a background you have already uploaded click on the 'Custom' link

or

2.  When editing an existing poem/column etc

Go to the poem and click on 'Edit'

On the Editing page, to the right hand side locate the link 'Customize background' and choose the category 'Custom'

************

In each case the new window which opens lists your customised backgrounds  so that you can make your selection.

Once you click on 'choose this background'  the colour selection details open up below the background image, like this.

You now need to select the colours for your Text,  Links, and Visited links fo go onto your page.

Click on each of the square rainbow buttons in turn to make your selection using the colour chart.

Finally,

Once you are happy with the colours of the text, click on the 'Submit' button

Thanks for taking the time to add this. I still don't get my picture to come out right. it comes out to be 1/4 of the picture and not as a border.

I found all this very interesting but I already knew all this. My problem is that I have found some nice backgrounds that only give you html code that you need to copy and paste on your page. Allpoetry seems to not want me to do that because every time I do it, the only thing that happens is that the code and web address shows up on my page. I'm really frustrated. Do you think you could help me with this? It would be so cool if you could. Thanks,
    Micro
    PS....Here is the code:
Well, I see AP won't even let me paste the code in here either.

    Adding an Image

Why when i Upload an image to customize either my page or poem does it load multiples of it on the page? How do i get just one and resize it, or place it in a certain place on my page ?This is as easy as figuring out a Rubiks Cube.Actually no it's not.
