Posting a poem and adding an image

This is a simplified step-by-step guide to posting a poem, choosing a background, and for Silver and Gold members, how to add an image to your poem.

I will do a separate column on Working with Custom Backgrounds.

Gold members can add secondary images. This is explained in detail in a separate column.

http://allpoetry.com/column/show/2333219

First of all you need to locate the 'Add' link which is situated at the top of every page.

Click on this link and it will take you to a new page where you can decide what you want to post.

You have a choice of the default page for a poem, or the links on the right hand side of the page for adding a column, list,  add a line, or contest.

Silver members have the ability to use certain formatting options for italic, bold and underlining text within their post.

Gold members have further features with a rich text formatting link above the text box.

Next you need to add your title, and text of your poem.

It is strongly advised that you keep a copy of any poem or post you are about to submit, saved to your own pc for future reference and safety.

Once you are happy with your post scroll to the bottom of the page, and set the alignment of the poem. You can choose to have it aligned to the left, or to the center of the page.

Once you have selected it, then click on the 'Submit' button.

This will now take you to a new page where you can select a background for your poem.

You have the choice of the stock backgrounds as a free member .... or with a paid membership you can use your custom backgrounds.

Once you have selected the background you want to use....a further 'window' opens below the background so allow you to select suitable font colours for your Text, Links and Visited Links.

Go to each one in turn by clicking on the 'rainbow square' at the side of each, and this will open up the colour selector chart.

To use the colour chart, first select the colur range by clicking on the slim right hand coloured bar.

Then, by clicking on the main colour chart where the two lines cross, keep the button depressed and 'drag' the point to where you want it.  The colour will show in the bar at the bottom. In this way you can 'fine tune' to the exact colour you need.

Do this for each of the three sections, Text, Links and Visited Links.

Once you are happy with it then click on Submit.

Your poem will now appear with the background and text colours of your choice.

*****************

For Paid memberships (Silver and Gold) you have the ability to upload an image to your poem.

First go to your poem and click on 'Edit'

Scroll to the bottom of the page where you will find a box to browse for the image held on your own pc which you want to upload to the poem.

Click on the 'Browse' button. This will bring up a small window for you to locate the image on your PC.

Once you have located and selected the image, click 'open' and the path will appear in the box on your edit page.

All there is left to do is click on 'Submit' and your image will be uploaded to the site and onto your own poem page.

I am unable to upload pictures with my poems, even though it is a picture provided by someone else. I am a gold member and have never had trouble until now.

I feel like maybe you need to also mention:
    Choosing categories
    brief descriptions
    and Author notes

A contestant in my contest (who is new to this site) is confused about where to find the notes box. I tried explaining, but I think it would be best to have visuals, like what you give.

I think the rest of the column is wonderful and is probably a great help to new members.

you need to tell what the dimentions of an image can be. so when an image is desired. proper size modifications can be made before attempting to load an image that may be too large.

      help you did that

Think you have the same trouble I had but their need to be a certain visabillity (contrast between texts and background) If they don't match the criteria submit wont popup but her's how it works. (the answer I got)
[ticket 28999] If the color values on the screen say the brightness is incorrect. The button will not display to allow you to use it UNLESS you go to the right hand side of the screen and click the link that says "let me submit anyway". That will make the submit button ready to use. If you need further assistance, please let us know.

    I did that!

What I'm trying to tell is that I'm following the directions but when I click on the rainbow box and click on a color and then OK, it won't change from black. I know how to do it because it has worked in the past. Now it's not.

I have a question on columns, where I have an image(added on the old version of Allpoetry), ...... When I click on the '9 columns' link on my poet page, why does the image show beside/above the title in the list of columns, and scrunch everything to one side? It only does it to columns, and not poems(or even stories at SW).

    Wonderful!

You did a marvelous job, Ann! Thank you very much. LOL, it took me quite a while to figure all of this out when I posted a poem for the first time after the changes - wish I had this column of yours then. I'm still not sure how to apply the underlining, italics, etc. because when I tried it, it all came out "crooked". But this column will indeed help. Truly a great piece of work - thanks!

    well done!

    thanks for this helpful introduction.

I have 2 reservations and one question:

    Reservations
    1) the color chart for selecting color fonts is very hard to navigate.
    2) all pics uploaded have a customized size which is rather small (unlike the older settings). This is a serious problem, especially if you have to upload a pic for a contest and need it to be large enough for people to see even the smallest of details.

    Question
How do I submit an anonymous poem to a contest and how do I choose this option while designing a contest?

I agree with others - have no idea what testimonies
are and will be grateful if you adress this subject, as well as writing an introduction to all the subject of points-earning, as excellent and clear as you have written this one.

thank you for a wonderful job!
