How Can We Forget...so Soon?!?!

These are my thoughts on the recent mid-term elections in the USA.
I think the country was foolish to elect the Democrats to control of the Senate and House. Even though the Republicans still retain the White House, it is a loss to lose the legislative branch to the Democrats.

It seems to me that the Democrats won because they were popular, not because they were necessarily wise. A sad truth in this country is that the popular person is voted into office, not necessarily the wiser person. I believe President Bush is making wise decisions, not popular ones. The Democrats are in power because they are popular. They want out of Iraq.

Our country is in a sad state. How fast have we forgotten 9/11? Would Americans prefer to bring the battle here, where countless lives would be lost? Or fight it overseas and do others good in the process? We set the Iraqis free from an oppressive government THAT WE ONCE SUPPORTED. We used to back Saddam up. There are those out there who be live Bush is out for oil. I say nil. Those people are just trying to make Bush more unpopular. We removed a dictator that began two vicious, violent wars. His son tortured the Olympic athletes just for fun! He murdered his own people! So what if there were no WMAs??? The world thought they did, Saddam wanted us to think he did, and it seemed a reasonable supposition at the time. I didn't see anyone regretting our decision to go to war the night that we did. Why back out now? Because we're cowards. We've lost the American spirit to seek out evil and destroy it. People are looking out for themselves. I don't see anyone asking, what do the Iraqis think? Are they grateful, or do they want us out? They want us there. They love their new found freedom, dangerous though it may be.

I also think that people have unrealistic expectations of Bush and his administration. I mean, how did he know what Katrina was going to do to New Orleans? All I hear is, 'it's all his fault'. But is it? Maybe Americans have gone soft. Why, just the other day, I heard a radio article in which this woman from New Orleans was complaining that her trailer was not as perfect as she wanted it. The bathtub had a leak and the kitchen was too small. Come on. The government is spending millions on the Gulf Coast to provide these trailers. Do you know how much those things cost? Like half a million to set up. Half a million, ladies and gentlemen. Half a million taxpayers' dollars poured into sheltering this homeless woman, and she was completely ungrateful. I'm not saying she represents all of New Orleans. I'm just saying that the American people need to buck up and put their backs into it when things aren't going exactly their way.

What also ticks me off are people that take advantage of these situations. Cindy Sheehan is one such woman. I'm not saying she didn't love her son. But when he signed up for the military, HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS GETTING INTO. He wasn't Sheehan's charge anymore. She can grieve him as much as she wants, but saying that it's Bush's fault is a huge mistake. Her son knew the risks when he signed up. She shouldn't be protesting what her adult son decided to do. This also demoralizes our troops. I think it should be a crime of sabotage to do that. Who couldn't see people demonstrating against the war they're fighting in and not think, this is a dangerous waste of my time? It, in a sense, turns the troops against their own country by making their minds say, you know what, I don't have to be doing this. It's a mental form of sabotage, I tell you.

The media needs to get a grip. Just shut up!!! They only report on the terrible things in Iraq. Think about it. Have you ever heard a report from the stable north provinces? Heard about the reconstruction and good we are doing there? NO. It's all the trouble Bush is causing. And to be honest, America has lost its ability to discern. We just eat up what hate media gives us and believe it. DO you know how many people readily believed that Dan Rathers report on Bush's cowardice? And how the forgers were so eager to trip up Bush that they typed the report on a computer instead of a typewriter? America needs to broaden their spectrum from what the media gives them.

I believe the Democrats will bring disaster on this country if they are not careful. If they leave Iraq, it will be a green light to terrorists around the globe. Terrorist A: Americans left Iraq! They gave up! We won! Terrorist B: Yeah, let's go blow them to bits and show them they're not so grand as they pretend to be! Seriously, that is what will happen!! The terrorist will return. NO, this is not an advertisment for a horror film. But it is an advertisement saying, we have given up in the face of murder and oppresion. Ladies and gentlemen, we fought Europe for that very freedom!! Having tasted it, should we not serve it?! If we withdraw from Iraq, we will prove that we have lost our American spirit.

Bush, I stand by you. His wisdom and leadership have never quailed in the face of all this adversity. Why, Abe Lincoln was the most unpopular president during his term of office. Did he bow to the people's wishes to withdraw from the South? NO. He stood firm, making wise decisions until the very end. I will never hesitate to compare George W. Bush with our beloved Abe Lincoln. God Bless America. We'll need it.As you can probably tell, I am a stolid Republican.

I do! But that doesn't mean I don't think he was a wise and good and godly man and leader. I respect him, even though he messed up the Union. And remember, most ppl don't support the South. SO I gotta write from a northern perspective. Keep hush hush...Got it? just kidding!

I thought you didn't like Abraham Lincoln?? And now you thinkhe was right in the "war of northern agression" as you called it? you are confusing me. I agree with most of what you said but I know you heard a lot of the facts secondhand from media and Mr. F but do you really have solid proof in that? Good write.

    Powerful

Very well written. This is a very powerful speech in my opinion. You used simple words to convey meaning making it easily understood. You also brought about several good points, the main one being the lack of media attention on the North provinces. Sadly however I support the Democrat election, and I got the idea you were a stolid republican from the first sentence . Excellent write in my opinion!
