'An Open Letter To Whoever Is Hosting A Contest...'
Thanks for commenting on my poem... But I have to disagree with your comments about rhyming poetry. This poem has a graceful freedom and natural flow throughout the entire piece... Not one line is 'forced'...
If you are to truly judge any poem objectively that rhymes, you need to approach it with optimism; not with the attitude that it won't be good enough, because you don't see freedom of thought, or a smooth flow of words...With that preconceived notion in your head, no one would ever place in any contests, especially poets who happen to prefer rhyming poetry, instead of free verse...
But you have just dismissed my poetry, with a 'shrug'... What this tells me is that you will never judge a contest fairly, since you feel rhyming poetry is not expressive enough, as free verse supposedly is...
I hope my reasoning doesn't offend you, since that wasn't my intention... But in the future, take care in how you respond with critiques... Real people with real feelings are on the other side of those poetically expressed words...
Good luck with your contest!

This is an actual response to a nameless person on this site who is hosting a contest...
We enter contests for self-improvement, for the challenge of competing, for the fun of it...
Please take care in how you critique or respond to an individual's poem...
Don't have an attitude against certain types of poetry...If you do not like a certain style, please include that information in the rules for each contest you are holding...

You have some very good points. Contest holders are suppose to be honest in their comments but to discriminate your poem because it’s a rhyming poem is simply irrational. I read your poem and the comment you are talking about. I agree with you when you said “If you do not like a certain style, please include that information in the rules for each contest you are holding.” How are you suppose to know that they don’t like a certain poem style unless they mention in in their contest?
I hope you will have a fair chance in that contest, if not, find a better contest to enter your poem in.
