The Piles of Life

Dumping and being dumped is a very descriptive and graphic phrase for rejecting or being rejected. In all cases we start with some kind of relationship, the relationship matures and then turns for the worse.
Think of it like this, which is where the graphic nature of the description comes in, you encounter some food, taste it, find it to your liking and eat it. You then interact with it (digestion) and either consummate the relationship by absorbing the result as a source of energy or you reject it and eject it., hence taking a dump. Life imitating nature indeed.
Let us not limit ourselves to dating , and its ultimate result marriage, but look wider.
We can see that being canned or replaced in employment as another analogue for dumping and I’m sure you can think of many more.
The easiest data to collect are those for official institutions such as marriage and divorce and the above chart shows the trend in the UK from 2001 to 2004.

It is difficult to see but both the divorce and birth rates are rising over time. What is immediately obvious is that the population and marriage rates are increasing much more rapidly. What does this mean? Well, it means that, in proportion, divorce rates are getting smaller as a percentage.
This means that either the world is becoming happier or that people are becoming more tolerant of each others faults. The population is growing and thus the pool of available people to interact with grows. Plenty more fish in the sea.
I ask if it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all? Cliché, I know, but still as true as when it was coined.
Before you wend on your merry way and start sighing with relief at future prospects, I must add that age is also a large factor, one that dwarfs such petty considerations as inter-racial, religious and same-sex relationships. Unless countered by power or money, age is the ultimate ‘dump’ and the older you get the smaller the pool of potential mates, particularly for the male.
So, enjoy your youth and potential whilst you may. Father time is approaching and he’s ready and willing to take a dump upon YOUR chances.
Preparation H, here we come ;-)
