"Mom," I yelled as I entered the house.
"I'm in the living room."
"I made the varsity wrestling team!" I yelled as I ran into the living room.
"Wow that's great news," she said, sounding unimpressed.
"That's not all," I said, to excited to let her ruin my good mood. "I made the Art team."
"That's great dear," she answered blandly. "Now why don't you go run along?"
"Why don't you try being a supportive mother?" I said in a sharp tone. "I was supportive of you when you got a new job, raises, and when you date all those idiots I have to put up with!"
I stormed out the front door, making sure to slam it behind me. I started to walking to Brian's house. I really didn't feel like having the cutting lecture again, even if I wanted to feel the blood drip from my wrist. I walked up to the door and knocked.
"Hello Kris!" Mrs. White said cheerfully. "Brian's' not here right now. How are you Hun?"
"Hey Mom," The edge in my voice was replaced by a quiet tone. "Not so great, me and my mom are at it again."
"You poor thing, come in and stay a while. Whats going on this time?" She asked.
"I finally have something for her to be proud of and she doesn't even pretend to care."
"I'm sorry Hun. Whats the occasion?"
"I made the varsity wrestling team and the schools art team."
"Well that's wonderful sweetie! That is something to celebrate. Why don't you stay for dinner?"
"I don't know..."
"Non-sense, you deserve to be appreciated. Go home and wash up, then come right back."
"Okay, I will. Thanks Mrs. White," I said as I turned and walked out the door.

"Where the hell did you go Kristal Lee Johnson?!" My mother yelled as soon as I walked in the front door.
"What do you care?" I asked flatly, and then added, "Obviously you don't care about any aspect of my life, good or bad!"
"Now who's fault is that?" She asked sarcastically.
"I'll let you ponder that while I fix my makeup.
Ten minutes later I walked out of my room with my makeup perfected. "I'll be back later," I said as I grabbed my hoodie form the living room couch.
"And exactly where do you think you're going?"
"To Brian's house."
"I don't think so, you're in a ton of trouble for talking to me like that. You have some respect for me. I gave you life and I could just as easily take it away!"
"Don't threaten me! Pony up some guts and actually do it! And as far as you getting respect, maybe if you even pretended to care about me you might get some respect!"
"You're not going and that's final!"
"Yes I am and unless you want blood on your precious white carpet, I suggest you not try not to stop me!" I yelled as I flicked my knife open.
"Fine you can go, but only because if you smart mouth me one more time tonight , you'll end up in chalk-outlines!"
"Whatever," I muttered as I walked out the door, slamming it behind me as I did.
Walking through the light of the moon and the cool autumn breeze helped relax me by the time I got to Brian's house. When I arrived I found Mrs. White outside waiting for me.
"I hope you didn't have too much trouble coming back over Kris," she said with a smile.
"You know my mom, so of course I did. I don't know if I like being ignored more or if I like being screamed at every five seconds of my life. I at least know that I do exist to her when I'm being yelled at."
"That's just too bad on her part. She just doesn't know what a smart, talented, beautiful, young lady you are. Now then, lets go inside."
"That would be great," I said with a smile as we walked inside.
As we walked into the living room and sat down on the soft, white, leather couches Brian's pick-up pulled into the driveway.
"Hey, I'm home!" Brian yelled as he entered the house. "I got an A on my biology test ans got a B+ in Spanish..." his words dragged as he saw me.
Sensing the tension in the room, Mom quickly said, "Kris also has something to celebrate. She made the School Art team and she made the varsity wrestling team. So, why don't we order some pizzas and rent a movie?"
"Sure Mom, that sounds peachy," he said as he walked over and hugged his mom.
"Why don't you and Kris got get a few movies?" Mom suggested.
"Sure," he said as he grabbed his keys. "Come on Kris. Let's go."
I followed him quietly out to the little pick-up. The five minute car ride was awkwardly silent. When we got to Blockbusters we walked around in silence for five minutes until Brian finally asked, "So what do you feel like seeing? Dude, Wheres My Car? I know it's your favorite."
"Sure, whatever," I said as I gave him a weak smile.
"Are you still mad at me?"
"What do you think?"
"I'll take that as a yes."
"Yeah, you should. You've taught me a very important lesson."
"Whats that?"
"That you can't trust anyone, not even your best friend!"
"Harsh!"
"Not as harsh as what you did to me!"
"Let's just drop this for now and go to my house, okay?"
"Fine," I said coldly as I rolled my eyes and walked off.

The rest of the evening was pretty mild. We ate pizza and quoted the whole movie. It was around 10:30 when Brian offered to give me a ride home. I accepted grateful for the offer because it had gotten quite cold outside.
"Thanks for the ride," I said as we headed toward my house.
"No prob," He replied. "I really wish you would accept Missy."
"I tried freshman year, remember? I do, She treated me like dirt just because I didn't like the way she treated the smart kids, like Nathan, Josh, and Sara. I stood up for them and gave her a piece of my mind. She didn't like that so now just because she's rich and popular she has every one against me. So it's in my nature to hate her with a passion. I'm sorry, I can't do something that's against my will."
"Me too." At that he stopped in front of my house, let me out and drove off leaving me standing alone and confused again.Sorry It took so long for me to finish this chapter...It was already written...but I lack the time to type a lot of the times...Please let me know what you think...good or bad!!!
