Saint Satan

Father Samson is, you might say, a Satanist, sort of, although he is extremely devoted to his personal friend Jesus. Being long ago excommunicated, Sam is free to preach the truth as he sees it, not worrying about possible charges of heresy. He says that Jesus has told him that Satan is a loyal, obedient angel of God, not in any way a rebel; that is just a pretense. Satan is like an undercover detective conducting a sting operation to entrap a criminal. The detective pretends to be a bad guy in order to trick the criminal into committing a crime for which he can then be arrested and prosecuted.

Father Samson explains that God wants to test people to see if they can resist temptation; if it were too easy to be good then there would not be much of a test. Satan is the angel with the unpleasant job of making sure that it isn't too easy for people to be good; he doesn't really want people to sin and is not happy when they do, just as a good teacher who teaches a tough course is not happy when his students flunk. It is the teacher's duty to pass only those students who have demonstrated sufficient proficiency in the course material, so that their diploma will really mean something; it is Satan's duty to see to it that the lessons of life are sufficiently challenging, in accordance with God's will. So Satan is really a good angel, and Father Sam calls him a saint and says that we may pray to him and ask him to intercede for us with God like other saints do.

The notion that Satan obeys God has always been the Jewish doctrine, and Father Samson is half Jewish. His mother was a Reformed Jew and his father was a bishop, probably still just a priest at the time of his conception. Father Sam doesn't like to talk about his parents for obvious reasons and won't answer questions about them. However, when he is high on San Pedro cactus juice ( which contains mescaline but is not the same as peyote ) he sometimes is not so careful about what he says.

In the early twentieth century nice Jewish girls weren't supposed to go around screwing priests and priests weren't supposed to be screwing anyone; indeed, some would say that these prohibitions still apply today, but hey, no one is perfect and God is forgiving of penitent sinners. Father Sam loves his deceased parents. ( He must be around 80 now; he isn't truthful or even consistent about his age. ) Anyway, there were no DNA tests in those days and his father never officially acknowledged paternity, but he did arrange for financial support on the condition that Sam be brought up Catholic. Accordingly, he wasn't circumcised and he went to Catholic schools, but he claims to be Jewish as well as Christian.

This claim is not totally absurd; since his mother was Jewish he could be Jewish by birth, but first he would have to be circumcised and would have to reject the doctrine of the divinity of Jesus, neither of which I would consider at all likely for him to do in his old age. The Jewish religion insists that God is One and leaves no room for any notions of a Trinity.

I have never spoken with Jesus, but I have met The Whore of Babylon a number of times ( unless those were just hallucinations ). She says that the claim that she is an associate of Satan is a damn lie. The God of Abraham ( whose nickname is Ya, according to her ) has the chutzpah to pretend that He is the only deity, so He labels all other deities demons. She says that Satan is, indeed, a henchman of Ya, and that since the invention of Christianity his role has been to pretend to be the font of evil and thus take the blame for all the nasty things that Ya does.

The Book of Job in the Bible does imply that Satan works for God; also Satan is said to punish sinners who disobey God. In my opinion, the preponderance of evidence supports the theory that Satan works for God and may therefore be considered a saint, although according to The Whore he is still evil since, in her script, God is the heavy.

Hmmmmmmm, this makes for interesting reading, but as an atheist it is difficult to consolidate any theory about how various mythical characters, I do not believe even exist, are related to each other.

I like the interesting take on it, and I think it will probably annoy a lot of Christians, which is fine by me - I think they should be made to question their beliefs more often than they are.

However, it seems odd to me that anyone who believes in a benevolent and loving God can also believe that that God is cruel and testing and is so demanding of one of His angels (Satan)in making Him perform tasks he take no pleasure in, just to test his own creations - seems a bit silly.

Claiming that Father Samson is a Satanist is odd as well. Satanists have a very defined religion and it certainly does not involve the belief that Satan is any kind of servant of God. It is actually likely that this idea is more offensive to Satanists than to Christians.

" I have never spoken with Jesus, but I have met The Whore of Babylon a number of times ( unless those were just hallucinations ). "
I suspect they were (just hallucinations), and I suspect you know it.

Interesting read. Thanks for the entertainment.

    great write

i know you told me that you dont always believe in god .
i think it does not matter if we believe in him, as long as he believes in us, and since it is only by the way we treat each other that he judges us,then you are doing fine

This is a really interesting story idea you have here and its entirely plausable. I'm not big on religious stuff..well actually I am so long as its not conventional ^^ (see my various angel-themed poems...I'm very much "going to hell" for them all) anyway I really liked your logic! Don't let people bring you down!

What I believe varies with time. I am manic depressive, and what I believe depends on my mood. Sometimes I am very skeptical, but at other times I believe all sorts of strange things.
