Modern Challenges in Immigration

I do not believe United State government policy should favor certain kinds of immigrants.  The reason being is that our forefathers came to this land in hopes of freedom from oppression and hope for a better future. Why then should we not turn away people who want the same? This country is supposed to be the land of the free. We need to remember the spirit this country was built on.
Well I believe all should have the opportunity to apply for and become citizens if they are willing to abide by our constitution and our laws. I also believe that preference should be given to the neediest and most oppressed, but not necessarily the richest or most talented. We want to secure citizenship for those who pose a more urgent hardship than others. For those are in need of assistance sooner and may not necessarily survive long enough to wait for the normal process of applying for citizenship. I also think that the process for applying for citizenship should not be so expensive. After all many immigrants and coming to this country to relieve the financial burden they suffered in their homeland. Why should we then make it near impossible for them to come to this country?
I do not believe applications from certain countries should be given priority. How can we fairly decide which countries have priority over others. In this world today everyone is in need. It would be hard to define criteria that show one country needier or more deserving of preferential treatment in terms of applications.

This is a paper I did in ETH123 Cultural Diversity, just want to share it with everyone.
