Fun With Children and Learning

They say to keep education from being boring to make it fun and I've always found that true, especially tonight.

They say to keep education from being boring to make it fun and I've always found that true, especially tonight.

My daughter got a little bit behind in school this year for several reasons so to try to catch up, she opted to go to a continuation school for the second part of her school year. She still has all of her major classes but instead of being in a traditional school room, she goes to school, gets her work in packets and does all of her work at home and takes it in and turns it into her teacher once a week. At this time, she takes a big test on every section she completes and discusses things with her teacher at that time.

Presently, on top of her Math and Literature class, she is also doing her art class. She reads her art book, answers questions on each part and also does an art project. For these few sections she is doing right now, she has several art projects to turn in. The first project is to create a huge color wheel with the primary, secondary and intermediate colors.

They gave her small containers of the primary and secondary colors and she had to make the rest of them herself. Well, needless to say, they didn't give her enough paint and after making a mess of her first color wheel and running out of colors, she had to make a second one.

All she had at this point was the 3 new bottles of primary colors that I had to go out and buy her and she had to make all the other colors by herself. She had yellow, blue and red and she had to make orange, purple, green, yellow-orange, red-orange, red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green and yellow green.

At first, she got very frustrated and discouraged but with a little bit of coaxing, she ended up really enjoying herself. We kind of made a game out of it by creating new names for the colors (Names she picked and trust me they were very funny. Some of them were not what most mothers would approve of but at that point I was, 'Whatever makes her happy and gets her through it.)

At the end of the lesson, well let's just say we were very colorful people as we had a paint fight
It really surprised me as much paint as we had on each other and our clothes, there was NO paint on the walls, furniture or carpeting. LOL

Luckily she was only working with Tempera paints

He next project she is going to do tonight is Stained Glass Windows with construction paper and tissue paper and she is actually looking forward to it.

So I encourage you to try to help make learning fun for your kids. You might just have a little bit of fun yourself

Just thought I would share my evening with you my friends Be Well and Be Blessed

I think that you should go into teaching!!! not sure how your system works in America, but I worked as a teaching assistant in England and to be honest, I disagreed with some of their methods, so, like you, I introduced my own and had more fun. I am pleased you have a great rapore with your daughter, ( mums are always right, so mine keeps telling me lol,)it doesn't matter how much mess they make as long as they have fun whilst learning.Just remember, " Cleaning the house while your kids are still growing, is like sweeping the path before it's stopped snowing"
A friend of a friend of mine lost her children in a house fire, and every day now wishes she had that mess around her that her kids used to make!! mess can be cleaned, children cannot be replaced xx
best wishes and keep in touch Jacqui x

    A MOST BEAUTIFUL POST

This is a very beautiful lesson for all of us my dear sweet friend, I had the wonderful experience of coaching high school cross-country and track and field, I had to come up with more than just a few practices that were a little bit different to get the kids to enjoy running them so I understand what you are saying here.

Sometimes Sweetie, it takes efforts from both sides
School is sometimes a bite in the butt and fortunately, I remember what a bite it was sometimes. LOL I wish my mother or father would have been more like me too but they weren't.

Mothers don't have manuals dear so it's all trial and error. I am open to new things and this just happened to work for her

Thanks so much for commenting and please do stop by again even though I don't do too much writing anymore. LOL
