You are probably going to be away from home for a long period of time for the first time too. This isn't as easy as you think it is. You will miss your family like crazy; yes, even your father. You will call your parents a lot... just don't call them too much; and eventually you will be so tied up with your new school life that you won't call them at all. When it gets to that, remember to call them at least once a week, or they may think you died.
Your new friends are going to be great. They'll be fun, share your interests, go places with you, do things with you, but they will never replace the people who have known you forever. They will make new inside jokes with you, they will create new memories, but you will sometimes need to call up your friends from high school or before and laugh about some dumb thing you guys did freshman year. Your friends from home are your biggest link to the past and if you stick by them as you are gone, they will stick by you when you are down, heartbroken, or deeply in love. Unlike the people you meet, they will never tire of about how much you absolutely *adore* that guy, and they will always be there to bitch out that annoying prick who won't get off your back. Your old friends are best to cry to, to laugh with, to reminisce with, and never forget that. It will be hard. School will become home, and home will become a memory. But never forget those who were there for you through good and bad times. You will need them most.
Everybody will miss you, and have to watch from afar as you go on with your life. Make them proud! Make them proud to know you as a person, as a friend, as a family member. Make them proud to say 'I knew her when...' The most important thing though, is to HAVE FUN. College makes up the best years in your life, so take advantage of it!
Do great!
