Millions have asked the question 'why does god let people like Hitler do what he does etc'.
After many years of thinking about it and irritated by the constant question I've worked out a theory as to why.
I'm agnostic (Does not pick a side in whether there is a god or not,and is neither believing or not). So i have no problem with questioning the existence of god.
Now if there is a god, who is supposed to be all benevolent and knowing people ask why does he let bad things happen, and evil men to do what they do.
I believe if he is all knowing and all good he would know that a truly good being would follow free will. It is not a good thing to impose your will on anyone even if you believe it to be of a greater good. Even for a god he must understand that a life served in worship and sacrifice of happiness to impose another's will is no life at all and is wasted.
FREEWILL is the name of the game here. A truly all knowing god must respect a persons wanting to live life how they choose and should not stop that. If a person such as Hitler for example decided to kill millions of innocent people. Everyone asks if he is such a good god why does he allow these terrible acts to happen. If he were to impose upon Hitlers will and stop his actions he would impose upon his choosing of life.
God cannot tell who is deserving of heaven and hell if he controls there actions to end a particular way. He let Hitler carry out his actions to not interfere with freewill. Hitler is probably in hell. And that is his punishment for abusing his freewill to live and die as he chooses.
OK...so i think I've covered most of my meanings may post again explaining further unless i get a mass of people threatening to throw themselves off a cliff if they have to listen to me again.
If not i appreciate your comments and if anybody wants clarification just ask me.
This is my view and comments and possible answer to the question 'why does god let evil people do the things they do'. Everybody always asks why does he let the

Good ideas, but I (an adamant Catholic) also feel that God *could* intervene, but he doesn't want to. Either way, I agree with you on almost everything.
& thank you for keeping an open mind on the subject, because I'm sure that more than a few people in your position would say "God doesn't exist because of this" & leave it at that. -
Have to agree with ecravain on the Tolkien comment, but I also have to agree with Edna on the 'why Hitler' front.

Interesting thoughts expressed here, not just in the essay but also in the comments. Actually, few people are all good, and even the bad are usually not totally bad. (Tolkien said it best, while explaining to Frodo that he couldn't be the judge of whether Gollum deserved death or not). You need to fix the typos here so they don't distract people from what you are saying (which mostly makes sense).

I admit there are typos and i will correct them. I also thank you for correcting me on Agnostic. I also picked Hitler because he wa the closest to come to mind and i apologize for not mentioning any others. I merely mentioned the one i know most about. I will try to do a btter job next time.

Now firstly, there are a HUGE number of typos here and it is insulting to your readers not to correct them.
Secondly an agnostic is NOT someone who believes in a superior being. An agnostic does not know, neither believing in, nor rejecting the concept of a god-thing.
Your selection of Hitler as a baddie is pointlessly media-stereotypical and dated. Why not Stalin? Mao? Hoess? Sharon? Idi Amin? Saddam? Rumsfeld? Billy J Kramer?
This is not a good piece. -
Freewill is the basis of this School we call earth. When back in spirit we will review this life and what we did and how well we did. If we need to return and try again we will. God wants us perfect so that we can take our place in the heaavens at his level. That could take some of us billions of years.
I can go on and on about this subject but safe to say we feel the same way.
That is why some prayers go unanswered. We ask God to bail us out in one way or another and we just will not do it.
Sometimes greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

Indeed, excellent answers.
I'm a Christian and a lot of this is what I'd say. God allows us to make choices on our own. If not, we'd be mindly robots and there would be no purpose on this earth. He does answer prayers, but he also allows us to make choices. Good job on this one though!

You are a nutter...But I heartily agree that we shouldn't blame god. I believe that free will can be manipulated into willing wickedness. And as I dance from being Catholic to agnostic, and back again, I believe, if there is a god, (S)he's just tired of us all.

I agree with ur point of free will. and though we may not all like it, God does truelly work in Mysterious ways. Yes, I am a firm believer in Christ as Lord, but I am always Very Open to here other persons Ideas. Thank You. -Raye

I liked this. It was a good.
I think you've made a very good point. I agree with what you said about free will. Millons of bad things happen everyday but if God was to step in and stop it we wouldn't learn, he gave Adam and Eve a choice. Eat the fruit or do not eat the fruit. They had there own free will on to decide what to do. Eating the fruit gave us sin. God doesn't let it happen I think. I don't think we should blame it on God because he gave humans a choice. He lets us make our own mistakes. Sorry to ramble. I really liked this good job. -
Thankyou to all your comments i appreciate this and am quite asstounding at the fast replies.
I will indevour to write more of my ideas and views on your questions but so far there great and i agree whole haertedly. -
I'm glad to see I am not the only person who debates such off the wall things. Though I suppose this really isn't so off the wall. A lot of people have these theories and questions, just so few have answers anyone wants to hear. I agree with you that without giving the people the choice to do good or bad, there really is no good or bad, and no real point to things like heaven or hell. I am an aspiring Buddhist, though I am still a little too angsty. But I have a lot of thoughts on these things myself. Like, why, for instance, do people feel validated to complain of the choices made by Hitler (this is in no way supporting his actions), and yet in the same breath feel just as validated for all of the senseless killing done in the name of their own religions? Is it because of Hitler's lack there of? Is it a Christian's place to decide who is worthy of life or death, and who is truely right or wrong in the things they have done? No, it's not. And if they were any kind of Christian they would know that. Vengence is not their's to have. Nor is judgement.
Of course I have not seen or heard of many who followed their religion to a T. In this day and age it is more like a badge, one more trend to use to stand out from the crowed.
If God is real, and Jesusu did exsist, he let his only son be killed by man's ignorance, and has then let centuries of people pay the price for it that did not even do it. Why would he stop Hitler, if he would not stop that? I mean, really, when you get down to it, there is nothing that Himmler didn't order that had not been done many times before.
I am off on a tangent myself though. xD!
I'll stop now. Thank you for posting this! -
This was great, and with a little more in depth understanding of these kind of arguments,it seems you've covered most of the bases...awsome!

Good ideas
Somethings I'd address, though:
(1) Why do good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good? is that a case of free will? And, does human free will cause natural disasters etc or just human wickedness eg Hitler?
2 Why does there need to be a Hell? In fact, there is little (I am also agnostic, but since this is a discussion of the Christian God) Biblical evidence for Hell. Wouldn't it be better if God created no Hell and no chance for evil?
3 Does freewill necessarilly have to mean complete freedom? I don't personally believe we do have total freedom- eg the ability to live forever or fly unaided if we so choose- so why do we have the option to kill one another?
Keep writing
This was a wonderful column, I just like hearing ur thoughts- they're very good
Sry if this sounded critical- I just want to know your responses
