Meditation And Relaxation

A guide for meditation and relaxation.

Relaxation and Meditation

Many people meditate on an average basis and do not even realize that is what they are doing. Have you ever gone to get a vaccination, slowed your breathing, and closed your eyes to control the surprise of the pain? That is meditation. So is closing your eyes at a red light to calm yourself from the stress of traffic? Another way the human mind chooses to shut down temporarily in an effort to release built up stress and anxiety. Our mind subconsciously knows when we have too much stress.

Many have started using meditation as a means of better health, and getting in touch with their subconscious mind. Also as a way to assist in astral projection and visualization; which is an important key in contacting the God, Goddess, and The One? It is a natural act for humans to do, yet it does need to be learned, and practiced. I will attempt to provide some minor information here as to how to accomplish this for one reason, or both.

For Health

Meditation for health reasons is fast becoming a common practice amongst people of the world, and is recognized by national health associations. It is commonly known that stress causes conditions of the heart, depression, high blood pressure, insomnia, and migraines.  Doctors discovered that the ancient art of meditation is very helpful for these conditions and many more. Women that meditate during pregnancy, labor, and delivery tend to have healthier babies and a less stressful delivery. People with high stress careers have found meditation to help them think more clearly.  Meditation is fast becoming a more homeopathic remedy to many health issues. It is free, easy, and best of all it is painless.

Meditating lowers the heart rate and assists the body, through breathing exercises, in detoxing the body of impurities. This also helps to clear the mind, and gives you a clearer way to see your world and all in it.  This helps in curing the mind of depression, and self esteem issues.  This in turn reduces the risks of suicide, and mental ailment. Meditating also assist in sleep disorders. In teaching the mind to relax, and passing that relaxation on to the body, it enables you to reach a state where clear, solid sleep is possible without the use of narcotics. This in turn reduces the risk of addictions. Meditation is clearly a very healthy way to treat many conditions today.

For Spirituality

Meditation is used to reach a level of subconciousness, while still retaining control of your senses to a degree. It lets your body to relax, allowing your mind freedom to do a number of different things. For instance; mild meditation is used by many that practice divination such as tarot, pendulums, oracle cards, runes, and reading auras. This is made possible by making a small part of the conscious mind shut down, allowing more of the subconscious mind to be used. This is the area in which part of our sixth sense resides. In practicing more adept use of this part of the brain we are in a sense opening an antenna to the world we do not see or touch in our daily conscious life.

Meditation makes it possible for us to astral project as well. This is an ability many of us use during states of unconciousness. We cannot induce this act when our conscious mind is in use. We also have difficulty controlling it while we sleep. Therefore the best way to astral project is in a state of meditation. Meditation before practicing rituals, or casting also allows us better control of our emotions. This makes it easier to get in touch with our deities. It is essential in casting that we maintain control of our emotions as well. Meditation allows us to do that by clearing our mind.

How to meditate

There are several ways to meditate, or induce a state of total relaxation. The easiest way is do this is to start with breathing exercises. Take deep breaths in through the nostrils, not just filling the lungs, but the diaphragm as well. Then exhale slowly through the mouth. While practicing these breathing exercises, be sure to be seated in an optimal position. The back being straight and arms relaxed. The typical chakra position is ideal. Closing your eyes makes it easy for you to block out the rest of the world, and to visualize. Many will envision a peaceful and tranquil place, such as a lake, the beach, or the forest. This relieves the stress that is ever present in our living environments. Many choose to also use soft sounds such as flute music, natural sounds, or chimes. This causes the mind to slow down, and relax. Aromas are also used to assist bringing the mind to a state of meditation. Scented candles, incense, and flowers are very good for calming the senses. I myself like to use baby powder or patchouli oil in a warmer. Whatever feels best for you is what is right.

For whatever reason you decide to meditate, whether it be relaxation, health, or spirituality, do it as often as you can. You need not meditate for hours. A few moments is all that is needed to help you achieve what you desire. As you progress you will find it easier and easier to slip into a state of meditation. No mater your reasons for meditating, it will be a fulfilling experience and beneficial in the end.

Blessings and calm feelings!

This is my second column for my group "Blessed be, white witches".

Here is a link to a site that is non spiritual based to assist in meditation. It has an area that has a player with great meditation music. Enjoy it.

    I loved reading this!

I do mediatate a lot, I have a stomach condition that causes me incredible pain, no medication can solve it but when I go out, listen to the sounds of the nature in my background, smell the welcoming scent of silage and cut grass of home and breathe deep it all goes away

I usually take myself to a mountain, a bit like Lord Of The Rings
And there are hundreds of white horses
    and I'm flying
I can't describe the amazing feeling!

    This is great!
    Thank you

    Joyce,
By all means print it if you like. May I suggest also getting some calming cd's at Walmart? They are inexpensive. In the "Moods" section near world music. LOL. Usually about five bucks. They help if you play them low, and dim the lights while trying meditation. They calm the mind, which calms the body. Just a suggestion. Meditation is a great tool in relieving anxiety. My nephew is mildly agoraphobic, and has anxiety attacks when more than a few people are around him at a time. The mediatation has helped him a lot.

Thank you as always for reading and commenting so kindly. I have been busy packing to move, so have not had a chance to read and comment much, but when life is calmer I will catch up...promise. Thanks again and have a wonderful blessed week.

    Blessed be

    Amazing...Keep it up!!!

Billie Jean, This is so peaceful. We all need to do this. The stress that everyday life brings upon us builds up and if left unattended it deteriorates the health. I know this as I take xanax for anxiety attacks. I was able to decrease it myself through reading up on it and learning how to control it. I have never actually tried meditation. After reading this column I think it would help even more. I find that reading, whether it be poetry or just a good book is also a great stress reliever. If you don't mind I would like to print this out and use the information to help myself. You are blessed with talent that goes beyond words. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us. I'm sure your group loved this. It is so insightful. I just had to go back and read it again before I stand and applaud you for this fantastic and educational work that you have chosen to post for everyone. Love and blessings for you and yours my friend, today and always.

Ah yes Cat hun, and as we discussed the candles induce an involuntary recation in children. So nice. LOL. Yes more people should meditate, especially where I live. They truly need to clear their minds. Thanks hun for commenting. I hope that if ever I cease to amaze you, that you let me know. LOL. Hugs hun.

What a wonderful column Billie Jean I wish more people would meditate so that they won't disturb me. Something most people forget to do is GIVE BACK TO THEMSELVES. Now I am not meaning go all out on a shopping spree, but take 20 minutes out of your day and simply relax. No phones, fax or computer. Just sit and enjoy breathing. It helps by lowering your blood pressure which in turn is good for your heart and your mind.
BRAVO TO This Write!!! You never cease to amaze me honey, Loves ya, Cat
