To Write A Monchielle (Monchielle)

To write a Monchielle
you start each verse alike,
third line and fifth must rhyme.
Line two and four is free
for messages sublime.

To write a Monchielle
you must abide by rules
to be the perfect bard.
Each line six syllables,
soft-hard, soft-hard, soft-hard.

To write a Monchielle
four stanzas you must write
to get your message through.
I know it may be tough,
but something you must do.

To write a Monchielle
is fun and challenging,
it spreads like raging fire.
Allthough it is my style,
use it as you desire.

November 7th, 2005

A little while back I wrote a poem I called "You know you have found love", and as I realized it was in an unique style, I decided to name it Monchielle (Monchi is my wife Monica's AP-name, and -elle like in Kyrielle, another form that uses repetition). Many has already found the new style interesting, and I think it is going to spread far and wide.

Well, I guess if you haven't figured out the style yet, you should read the poem again. I really hope this is useful. If you decide to write a Monchielle of your own, I would be honored if you put "Monchielle" in the title of your poem, and/or mention me as the creator of the style in the comments, and add the following to the Author's Comment:

"A Monchielle is as such; first line repeats in each stanza, four stanzas in total, consisting of five lines, each of six syllables, and lines three and five rhyme. The pattern is Abcdc Aefgf Ahiji Aklml."

The Monchielle style spreads like fire, even to other sites!! If you type "Monchielle" in i.e. google.com you will find it in more and more sites!

See a list of my Monchielles, including a list of other places I have found the Monchielle, at allpoetry.com/list/23837

Hi, Hawkeyes! I would be honored if you would like to take a shot at a Monchielle poem. I have some poems myself, and links to others I have found on the site and on the web, in my collection at allpoetry.com/list/23837 - Hope these are enough examples for you. Please let me know when you are done, and I will give you my honest critique of your poem, and if you need help along the way, just ask! Jim

Hi, Angel! I will enjoy reading your first Monchielle (send me a link please!), as I enjoyed reading your Fibonacci. Your daughter is nicknamed Monchi?! That is so cool! Monchi is not only my wife's AP-name, but also her nickname from childhood. Monchi was a character shown on children's TV in Latin America back in the 70's, and was generally a little girl (played by an adult), wearing a pink PJ and a red clown nose. Thanks for the comment, and your applause, I really appreciate both! Jim

    AWESOME JOB!

I will try my best to learn this, I wrote one of your styles once, Fibonacci (I hope I wrote that correctly), -my daughter's nickname is Monchi, when she was a baby she sucked her thumb and looked just like a cute-little character named monchi-chi, so I started calling her Monchi- and so she is called today by me.

Hi, Reene! I am so glad you liked my new form, and that you want to give it a try. Well, I had to give it a name, and I thought I wanted to call it after my wife, so I used her AP-name Monchi, and mixed it with -elle from kyrielle, another style that uses repetition... Yes, the form is official, atleast it is recognized by shadowpoetry.com - a well renown resource for poetic forms. Hope to see a Monchielle from you soon, be sure to let me know when it's posted! I may have to give your new form a spin. I love how you desribed it in these examples. This is very clever. What made you give it the name "Monchielle"? I never knew this was officially a form. I call it metered poetry. I have written lots of poems using six syllables with an imabic beat (soft-hard, soft-hard, soft-hard). Anywho! A very well defined column. I am inspired to give this a try very soon.

    Nice work!

What a wonderful name for a wonderful form you have here. So far I'd heard that behind every successful man is a woman. Now I know that behind a successful poetry form also there can be a woman and there is one behind this lovely form Monchielle! I love the name Monchielle and I enjoyed reading how you got inspired to write a Monchielle on a Monchille and the 'elle' bit from Kyrielle and Villanelle...so sweet! I have bookmarked this form and will give it a try in the future.

All the best to you and Monica,

Thanks, davidz! I called Monchielle because it was created in collaboration with my wife Monica (Monchi on AllPoetry), and I added "elle" as found in "kyrielle" and "villanelle" to give it a "tail" that would define it as a form of poetry... I have written three including this one, but many others has written their own Monchielles already, some have passed me already. Some other users of this style that I recall at the moment is sunny day, and Pamela A Lamppa. There are others too that has written a poem in this style, but mostly single attempts so far. I think this style suits any motif or emotion, allthough it was used to write a love poem when I created the style... Thanks for the comment, and the applause! Jim
