I have to say this, simply because I have watched this go on here on AP too long. People abuse the column option as a write. In the past months I have seen so many people write a one sided column, then delete comments by people that were not rude to them, but had a varying opinion. I myself have posted columns, and never once deleted comments differing from my own, yet embraced the opportunity to have civil dispute. When you post a column, and ask for critical reviews, then delete the conflicting remarks it simply shows that you have a dictator attitude. "Do as I say and not as I do". This is utterly ridiculous. I think AP should freeze the ability to delete such comments by anyone but a moderator. Why invite conflict merely to run from it?
I will not name names, but the one that has me utterly peeved has done this to many, many comments. Now on the write it seems as though all of AP agrees with the utter idiocy of the write. A one sided conversation is for crazy people, not the collective population. This in my opinion makes that person a LIAR, pure and simple.
Do us all a favor. If you post a political column, begging for conflict, let the conflict be seen and heard. Don't gag someone Else's opinion simply because it does not agree with your own. Thanks.
BTW, Iraq will NOT become another Vietnam!
People here piss me off. What happened to freedom of speech? Only if it agrees with what you say huh?

I never thought it about myself I only delete when someone is just downright being mean ( Examples being stuff like Does your mother know you write trash like this pertaining to some of my erotica) but you have a valid point.. If you want to put your opinion out there by all means expect to get some back.. Good thought for the day.
As to Iraq I have made my feelings known.. Our boys come home this week. And I tell you what seeing some of the things they have been through? I only wish people knew the pain and agony they go through.. But They STAND FIRM AND STRONG.. I Loves you, Cat -
you've made a very good point here. why invite comments only to delete those who challenge your words? sounds like a form of control to me...or someone who needs to feel "popular" or "validated" so they delete comments which don't agree with them. i haven't come across it myself but i'm sure it's true. well said

I've seen poets do the same thing you have described. If they write a religious piece, and then someone comes along asking why they have to post such a write, the next thing you know, that comment is deleted. Too bad.

Very well proven point. I hate it when people delete comments or are rude just because you think differently than they do. It needs to stop, but some people are gonna be like that no matter what. Good job bringing it to peoples' attention though. :-) -
Yay! Freedom of speech (or type) is a respected right in the United States, and assuming that you mean political columns on issiues in the USA, then this is incredibly important. You rock!

I agree that comments should not be deleted if in disagreement! For me people that do not agree give me another perspective. That's always good. I don't think I have ever deleted a comment unless it was utter foolishness, and had nothing to do with what was written.
Politics is always controversial because people see through different eyes from varying sets of circumstances. I don't know that a disagrement in this area should cause us to become upset.
I lost a cousin in Viet Nam and a brother got through the "conflict", and seems to be faring well. Iraq frightens me. It looks like Viet Nam looked in the beginning. I do hope and pray it does not take the same course.
My problem with Iraq is why we went there in the first place. Where are the Weapons of Mass Destruction that were sought after in the beginning? Was that not our reason for going there? Saddam Hussein is a maniac, there's no doubt. But if there are places in the world we know have WOMD. They are The People's Republic of China, and Russia (Formerly The Soviet Union), why have we not attacked them? We don't have to guess at their nuclear power.
In essence, I disagree with the war in Iraq, but I hope and pray for the soldiers each day, because I've been through the distress of relatives in one wa,r and I have them in this one as well. My cousin Leonard is a E-6 Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for almost 12 years before they sent him to Iraq. He's been there since April of this year. As I said, I am frightened of this war.
To delete a different perspective is asanine! You are so right!

Interesting. I tend to shy away from the columns for this one simple fact. People seem to not be able to understand disagreeing opinions, so I keep to myself.

Well yeah, you would think that if someone posted a comment it was to bring about some discussion not just a bunch of 'yes men' crawling out of the shadows. Our point of view is different on the things we discussed tonight, but I still respect your point of view. I just don't agree with it. And...why do you say that Iraq will not become another Vietnam? It seems to have all the makings of one.

stands on a chair and yells I AGREE 100% I think certian individuals delete these differing remarks because they do not think some one else could possibly be right! That an opinion not in line with their own can have merit. Poor deluded persons.
State your opinion and back it up don't remove comments that may point out things you did not realize or refuse to see. What's wrong with people anymore. I think I'll create a new term:
Hitlerism n the condition of trying to rule others by exterminating those who do not fit your ideals. What do you think? Works for me. Would that be a noun or an adjective? Oh well grammer ain't my thing
