Using Digital Artwork

Imaging do's and don't's

It's amazing how many people use images without giving proper credit. Many artists make their living off their work, so for them to give us permission to post it, either individually or collectively, is a special thing. Please note that just because an artist allows us to use their image on a site such as All Poetry, they do NOT normally give us free reign on changing the design! We are usually allowed to re-size their work to fit our posting purposes, but sticking verbiage on an image that is not ours is a no-no unless the artist has said that it can be manipulated in such a way.

All these sites have something written on thier pages about Terms of Use, and most of them just ask that we provide a link back to their homepage. They do NOT want you to link to the image used; but their HOMEPAGE.

Personally, I will post a link on both the item I use it on, and my author page. Now that I have this, I will post information and credit here, as well as the item. I will also be checking out the sites periodically to make sure their TOU haven't changed.

If my best friend and soulsis wasn't an artist herself, I wouldn't know about the niceties and legalities of using other's artwork; but, since I'm starting to use other artwork myself I am learning. In addition, it would make sense to assume that other authors here would not know of these technicalities. So, benefit from my learning journey

So, here's the links. If you know of more, IM me or comment here Happy hunting.

Ah thanks! Well, I need to organize this better i'm still thinking about it. But coming from such a graphically challenged person as me, I do like to share what I learn. I'm only now getting it myself really. Thanks so much for your time and thoughtful review!

I think this is one of the better columns I have read. It addresses something this site sort of sweeps under the carpet.
I agree that when people alter art work it is taking away from the original artist. That being said I will confess to pulling elements from pieces of art and using them to advantage to accent my work.
YOu have given me something to think about.
