Lesson: Notes Taken and Points Cited
“Sure, it came from there…I think” - kryspin
Bibliographies and works cited pages
The biggest problem with many essays and papers happens to be in the quoting. We’ve covered how to quote properly ( allpoetry.com/Column/1439855 ). Now as I’ve mentioned in the previous lesson, you’re going to need to source cite your works.
what’s the difference between works cited and bibliography?
Works cited
Works cited pages involve everything you’ve actually used in quoting and paraphrasing. Below is an example of how to list it off. Of course, your instructor may ask for it differently, and there’s always the standard MLA or footnoting methods available for reference.
Things you need to know about works cited
- authors are either listed in order of quoting appearance or alphabetical. Alphabetical is more common.
- information must contain author(s) name(s), book title, publication date, place, company
For more information be sure to check out the official MLA website
( www.mla.org/ )
Bibliographies
These are different than the works cited paging, as everything you’ve used in your research (quoted or unused) will appear here. I personally don’t get why you would show all your unused research, but hey, maybe someone else will! The purpose, as I said before, is just to show your paper trail of research. This is done about the same as works cited. You can go to the following link for more information:
finding more information on MLA
Here are the links I’ve used to research and have recommended, all listed below for your clicking pleasure. This list is done to an adapted form of works cited/ bibliography combination. This is a personal form of works cited as this is only link recommendations and references. This form I have used in case studies at my local college. Not all my profs prefer this, yours might not either. If your teacher is requesting a quick list of research in the evaluation process of any essays/ papers, then be sure to list it like this. I’ve had to before in previous high school English classes (so the teacher can evaluate the research process)
