Growing Up Little by Lauren N. Sharman

Nikki Braedon’s abusive parents never let her forget she was an unexpected surprise. Abandoned at sixteen, she’s forced to pay the ultimate price for being unwanted. Her one salvation is Jake, the big brother with whom she shares an unbreakable bond.

The circumstances of his upbringing made twenty-two year old Jake hard-as-nails.  His one soft spot is Nikki, the sister he affectionately calls, “Little,” and tries to protect by keeping at his side constantly; unintentionally exposing her to situations she’s not ready to handle.

When Nikki’s drawn into a rivalry between Jake and his longtime enemy, a violent chain of events destroys her trust and confidence; causing her to hide behind Jake.

Realizing his sister must learn to fight her own battles, Jake tries convincing Nikki that growing up and becoming independent doesn’t mean losing his love.  Surprisingly, it’s his best friend, Charlie, who finally gets through to her. . .

I'd like to know exactly how "little" comes to be her own person, and woman. I like stories that include family ties, as family plays such an important and uninevitable role in our romantic and developmental processess. I like the cover too, its different, and makes you wonder who the cute, little, curly haired girl is...

This looks like a very deep story, with lots of emotion. The description really pulls at the heart. I love the cover. When I clicked, I thoutht it would be something about a "little person." LOL I guess I was way off base in judging a book by its title.
