Movie Must See!

movie advice
I don't know about you but nowadays it is so rare to find a film that contains a bit of everything.
By this I mean, romance, drama, humor and that overall "IT" factor..
Well I have found one.

That is the film
Closer starring Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen.

Don't scrunch your eyes at the mention of Julia, here she acts as I have never seen her before.

She as well as the rest of the cast pull off a mind blowing twist that leaves you sitting with your mouth open going Man, I want more..

And to me that is what any good movie should do.

Clive Owen is rapidly becoming one of my all time favorite Actors, he has a aura about him that just makes you sit up and pay attention not to mention okay yes he is good looking and has a voice that sends shivers down your spine. I also saw him recently in the film "King Arthur" and heaven help me, let this man come rescue me on a mighty steed.. ha ha ha

Back to the movie Closer...

Jude Law pulls off a great role not quite as great as in "Cold Mountain"  but he does make it believable and so I won't give anything away I won't say more..

Not to forget? The soundtrack... Great Goodness, Damien Rice and his song "The Blower's Daughter", and Suzanne Vega "Caramel" left me running for search on the net.

Just make this a movie must see and if you aren't happy come and yell at me..

I promise it's worth the rental...

Oh yeah, I have a whole shelf full of movies they can't see because of language or violence or sex. I wait to put those in when the kids are in bed.

Are you kidding? There is one here and nothing like packing up the kids, all the contents of the fridge, putting the babes in Pjs and wa la.. we are set for the night.. I love the Drive in here, something so classic about doing it with the kids as my Mom and Dad did it with me.. Only Danna? Don't let your kids see this movie!...

I love that you did this!

I live next door to a drive-in, if you can believe there are still some left in the country My sons and I go to see a double feature at least twice a month, but this never played at our drive-in. I will be watching for the DVD now though. You make it sound very appealing.

OMG!!! I LOVED this movie! I was really drawn in and it kept my attention. The Blower's Daughter is now my favorite song now, it's just so hella beautiful.

I did watch the entire movie (Closer), so I guess it wasn't quite awful enough for me to give up all hope on. Though it wasn't always clear what each charater's intentions for the future were (or even if they were clear to the character intending them); and sometimes the timeline skipped ahead a little too hastily for me swallow correctly. I'm no movie director or anything but there were a few parts of that movie that I'd either have dissected or clarified up a bit more before setting it out to dry. -- I've never seen The Indian Runner but if you're becoming a Clive Owen fan you might get a kick out of Gosford Park or Greenfingers. Gosford Park is a very "talky", murder mystery, era-flick, with an ensamble cast and an impeccably sculptured cinematography. Greenfingers is more of a romance dramedy where Clive Owen plays a convict who along with other fellow inmates study the English art of garden growing and eventually end up atop the ranks of a prestigious national garden competition.

I hate Ms. Roberts. Mainly because she was in one too many movies with Mr. Yummy Richard Gere. If her performance rates up with the one she gave in Erin Brocavich then it's worth seeing for that alone. Best "Indian" movie ever was Last of the Mohicans(sp) with Daniel Day Lewis and the music for that will leave you breathless. You have excellent taste so this is one I may invest in but first I gotta get my hands on Constantine!

But you weren't drawn in? and in a way yes I was a bit repelled by the skank but also curious to see where they would take it.. I would have preferred they made Clive's character out to be the "better" man but in reality? Do the chips fall like that? No.. I have this thing where I don't sleep? So I watch everything and anything.. lol By any chance you ever seen the film The Indian Runner? Always up for talking films with someone.. Take care, Cat

I think the movie focused on too many skanky ho-bag characters for me to really relate to any of their intertwined situations. Call me prude and call me old fashioned, but I really can't bring myself to feeling bad for lying, cheating, manipulating arseholes who end up hurting all the people they love and hating themselves because of it. I don't think the movie deserves credit for Damien Rice's musical talent, but Natalie Portman (although no Kate Winslet) did nail the struggling exotic dancer/flitty impulsive girl vibe for her character. And don't get me started on Jude Law. His face looked like a gang of zoo-animals bombarded it with their feces in this movie. I don't think he's ever been uglier. And whoever designed that movie poster went a little overboard retouching their faces and altering all their eye-colors. That's all I have to say.

Gotta agree at least with the soundtrack, I found the movie itself rather predictable, but I think I just saw too many interviews prior to seeing the movie. I do love that song though....& you of course!
