Beginning AllPoetry

For Newcomers
I have learned that many newcomers and even several regulars don't know how to ticket someone. This is just a basic run through for you on AP and some of it's features.

Ticket- Sometimes problems develop between members or someone leaves a extremely rude comment and you don't know what to do. A Ticket is where you notify a Moderator so that they make take care of the matter and if need be, make sure that the proper procedures are followed. This may be a warning, they will tell you put someone on ignore( I will cover this as well) or it may lead to someone being banned.

At the bottom of all pages on All Poetry you will find Inappropriate content on this page? Please let us know which rule is being broken and which message you consider harassment.. Beside that is a little area you fill in with with your complaint for example Someone said I was and say who, what, when and where and click send. As well as the word rule is also a link that leads to the Frequently asked questions area, where you can find answers to most questions you might have without having to involve a Moderator.

When you send a ticket normally it will tell you that someone will get back to you in 24 hours. Most of the time you hear from someone sooner than later. You will remain anonymous and need not worry that they will tell on you, as I know that has been the case for a lot of people not complaining in the past.

If you have a question on All Poetry where do you go?

At the top of the screen there is a bar that has Poetry, Contests, lists and Groups and Learn and Forums and Help.

At the Help bar click on it depending on what type of question you have (IE. if you are looking for a new member contest ) you can click just ask a question allpoetry.com/ticket

and it will lead you to where you may ask a Greeter which is again linked for a simpler course. If it is a complaint there is also a area or block that you may fill in there and wa la click send and it is done. You can also send a IM TO HELP and someone will answer as soon as possible.

Policies may also be found on that same page allpoetry.com/special/policies it goes into site rules and summaries of what can be written

and what isn't allowed such as language. Before anyone Writes on here I highly suggest they look through here and continue to check back often as sometimes the Rules are subject to change.

Instant Messages

I have learned that a lot of members do not realise that refreshing their pages lets them see new messages, simply by going to the arrow at the top of your web browser and clicking this you will see new messages, system messages and Group messages.

To send a instant message you can either click the (im) next to someone's name or on the messages page which can be found under your name again it is linked, there is a blank im form. Type in someone's name then what you want to say and send. To return a im, simply click reply. It is that simple.

Group Messages

If you are a member of a group on All Poetry and your group allows messages to send a message to the entire group it is the same format, just click the (im) next to their name Wenches for example and ta da you type and send. Make sure Group IMS are allowed some Group Owners frown on messages in a group as it tends to take up a lot of space.

Block and Ignore

When problems arise between you and another member it truly is better to put them on block and ignore. To do this under your name you will see settings, click that and it takes you to a page where you can edit yourself.  This allows you personal freedom and choice, to put someone on Ignore click where it says Manage your Ignore list, type in the offenders name and it's done. The same for Block, type in their name and it will ask if you wish to place them on ignore click yes and it lessens your time. I  would suggest clicking the box that also says hide any messages or comments from this user, so that you aren't even reminded of them at all.

Well this is enough for right now, I will write Lesson Two soon and I hope this helps someone. Being here can be exciting and fun, as long as you are able to learn the ropes and not feel awkward.

Take Care and Welcome to All Poetry...

excellent! This is very well written, and not overwhelming to those who are wondering just how to do something.
"send a im to Help" an IM? also, I noticed the other phrases that are links are in white, but that one is not linkable(if that is indeed a word )....just pointing that out in case something happened during editing.

Commending you on the wonderful job you have done with this column. I think a lot of people either misunderstand or overlook the ticketing/reporting feature, and may miss instant messages and don't know how to retrieve them. (I think that, personally, the instant message feature needs to be updated so that ALL messages get through, but nothing is infallible, is it?) This is a wonderful 'beginner's guide'. It's so easy to understand that even a child could digest it. That's why I'm glad I didn't write it--I would've used too many 'big words'. lol! Anyway, wonderful job dear...I hope you are okay.

    Many blessings,

This is well written, easy to understand. I have been here for awhile, but everything I learned was from trial and error, exploring and just being nosy LOL. It is good to have something like this for the newcomers. Makes it a lot easier to figure the place out.

Great job on this, Cat. You're right, there are probably many members who still don't know about this, and I'm one of them. Thank you for putting this on so that everyone will now know. I'm putting it in favorites so I can read it over again. Hugs, Patricia

I, personally, don't see much point in ticketing someone for being rude. Just recently I was attacked by someone who didn't fancy my work. I simply told him off and removed my poem from the contest it was in, as he was in the group that was holding the contest, as I didn't want to associate my work with people like that. If something offends you, you should have the good grace and dignity to walk away, not run to the powers that be. That's like that whole "I'm gonna tell mommy!" thing that kids do.

Catressa, you did a great job with this column. I hope a lot of the "newbs" to AllPoetry read this as soon as they sign on for the first time. I wish you had posted this a year or so ago. Would have saved me some time. Thank you for posting this. It's informative and nicely put.

This needed to be done, and you did it with class. I find it rather ironic that the same people the administarion comes down on all the time are the same people educating the new members of this site. Perhaps they should give us free golds for doing their jobs.

This column is very helpful Catressa for new members, and members such as myself who have been on the site for almost two years. I do however have a problem with ticketing someones poetry, that is "offensive to the reader". My problem lies in the fact that we can always walk away if something offends. You have expressed well the alternatives, but it seems that many would rather not use them, and seek to have the persons work deleted (censured). On a site with the greatest potential in the world of being the very best, we are presently dealing with censorship issues, which makes this post timely. I do hope with all that is in the fiber of my being, that we do stop and think about the rights of others to write as they choose, and we use the options provided if offended. Your column is needed and greatly appreciated.

    Much Love,
    Renee

I was here for several months before I even knew that when I clicked on a poem in the feature box, I was costing someone points. Once I discovered that, I was mortified over all the poems I read and didn't comment on. Information like that is not readily known. So many new members do not look over the information that is provided to them when they join and that's sad. Let's hope many will read this and see the merit of your words Catressa. You have presented the issues well and you have certainly provided some valuable information. Looking back, I have to laugh about some of the dumb mistakes I have made. I remember my first group experience, I didn't even know how to respond to messages. I'm still not much more computer savvy but I do know my way around Allpoetry thanks to people who like you, were willing to share their time and the wealth of information they hold. Great job here!

Great info in this, Cat - you are providing an excellent primer for both new and long-time members. Just a little note: you can also refresh your page (and any other web page, for that matter) by hitting the F5 key on your keyboard. I have found this to be quicker in most cases than moving my mouse. Thanks, again for a great column!
