Very good idea
This is a great idea! And would be a fun think for me to do! My mother does geneolgy and has shaken several poets out of our family tree and I have been reading and purchasing books by one of them: Robert Peter Tristram Coffin is his name. How would I submit a biography and to whom? -
Thanks for the heads-up. There's lots of poets that I have an admiration for but do not get the attention they deserve. I think I'll start doing my research.
-
no deadline - write at your own pace, rules are all listed above (due to copyright issues) - pick a poet and let us know who you have chosen so that there isn't any double-ups and pick up your pen.
Thanks for your interest.

Very nice idea. I may have to give it a try.
When is the deadline and to have this turned in?

cool. Hope to be able to fit this into my schedule. I will hop right to it.

I would love to rewrite the biographies of Anne Sexton or Sylvia Plath if they haven't been taken yet. Such amazing poets who ended their lives much too quickly. Unfortunately, I may not have time to do it but good luck to anyone who does!

Yes I would like to RE-write your biography of Cicely Fox Smith for 2 reasons.
First
She was a most amazing woman and is my favourite poet. A number of us are considering producing a CD of her poetry and the songs people have made from them.
Second
The one you have got at the moment is sparse and inaccurate. She was most definitely a British Citizen. Born here, Died Here.

If he's not there, by all means, go for it. Just remember that your biography must be entirely your own words, no wholesale copying of stuff from other places, and your sources for both biographical information and pictures have to be listed.
Also keep in mind that translations are protected by copyright as well as original work. If you have poems that you'd like to provide along with a bio, its important that you find out where these translations come from, so that we are not unwittingly infringing on copyright.
Thanks for your interest,

Can we also suggest poets for OldPoetry. For instance, there is a Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah whose revolutionary ideas were far ahead of his time. The spiritual element of his poetry still continues to inspire millions of people. I am not sure how popular he is in the West. It would be a wonderful addition to Oldpoetry to have his Bio and translations of poems (which are widely accessible), and I am willing to help out. Let me know if this is poissible.

Ok, I decided to branch out and try Latin America. Here is my choice: Jose Hernandez . He has no poetry listed either, too sad.

I would love to do this!! Let me go and see. I think I will choose a spanish writer, since that is my field. How do we notify you of our choice?

I could so easily do this on William Blake, I have a book of collected works, personal letters, and essays. Along with a good look into who he is. Unfortunately I do not have the time to write one. But good luck with this anyways.
