Writing assignment: Seven reasons why I write. Time: Fifteen minutes
Well, this was more difficult than you might believe. I thought it was just to make money, then a lawyer friend told me I cannot make money with fanfic. So, I actually had to come up with some reasons. It did not take fifteen minutes, but it was not easy. I am afraid I cheated a bit. I managed to find eight reasons, but a couple of them, while true, may not apply.
1) Self-satisfaction. I write to relieve something inside of me. And, I am a dreamer.
2) I admit that I like getting reviews. Who does not? It validates me in a way that those who should do not.
3) I want to create the same way that the authors of the books I read create. It is not a “God” thing, but rather a “world as we would like to see it” thing. I am taken away by the books and movies I like.
4) I write because it is something others cannot share. It is all mine. They can listen to it, but it is still mine.
5) I love my characters and want to share them with others.
6) Escapism. I am medically depressed and this keeps me off meds for a while. It is the greatest feeling in the world. (I could write a whole book on why my life is depressing, but it would depress you.)
7) If I do not write poems and fanfic, then I could write a newspaper article about how I up and committed spouseicide. The details would not be pretty, but quite descriptive. And, short on dialogue. I would have to describe and do it before he could talk me out of it. And I have been told that I use too much dialogue.
8) I am actually writing an original story that I hope will be published, someday. This is good practice.
This was a writing assignment. I believe it is self-expanatory. If not, sorry.
