Somebody once said.....
Somebody once said
that any poetry that rhymes...
isn't poetry at all.

Anybody who's ever agreed
with either one of them...
needs to get the hell off of their high horse
and grow the f**k up!
I am so disgusted with all these "poets" who discriminate against either rhyming or non-rhyming poetry. If you truly believe that one way of writing is fundamentally "better" than the other, then you are in such need of a long overdue reality check that it's not even funny. Openly admitting that you're that closed-minded about poetry is just about the most pathetic thing I can think of for a poet to do.

Poetry does NOT have to include rhyme in order for it to be good.

For me, it's almost like being caught in the crossfire of insanely radical sides of politics. Whenever I fall into a comment, collumn, contest, poet-page, or author note at the bottom of a poem that clearly indicates the poet's feelings of what REAL poetry either is or isn't... I throw up a little in my mouth. I don't think the stay-within-the-lines approach works, especially when dealing with poetry sites that tend to be geared more towards a single type of poetry (namely "freeverse and contemporary" versus "formated and rhyming") over another. I believe that the more stuck in their ways a writer is, the more they're missing out on whether they admit it or not and that it's the site's duty to uphold the ideal of an undefinable version of poetry that no single person has earned the right to control for another. To me, a "poet" who says things like, "" or "I can't stand freeverse" might as well be just saying, "I'm ignorant and close-minded, and therefore shouldn't be taken seriously as a creative thinker or any sort"

i like to think of poetry as the type of art pablo picasso would create
everyone interprets it differently, and not everyone may like it
i do agree that there is no "BEST" or "BETTER" kind of poetry
rhyming or not, haha great job

You're totally write. Poetry is not something that can be defined. It is an open canvas that any of us can alter. There is no right, and no wrong. Very valid point.

thankyou so much for the poem gregory...this is something i think many poets need to read. i think everyone's taste in poetry is different...thats why we need diversity! great poem. take care. -
KICK ASS POINT!
That is so true! Before someone said that my poem didn't rhyme enough, and it's like shut up! But I think that you've hit the problem right on the head. More people should think this way, it's easier, right, and just better. Great point! -
Well said!!! it needed to be said and you said it.
