What the Painter Can't Tell You

It is not that I cannot paint a dog.  It is just that I cannot paint a very good one.  However, I can show you the dog in ways a painter cannot.  For example: give a boy a dog and watch him grow.  Who is him?  The Boy or the dog?  Yes.  I can show you both with time and with the right set of words placed carefully for your interpretation (says the writer).  But still, a writer's most difficult confession is that they want to be a painter.  For if a writer could paint what they write, could you imagine?

The only downside/upside at the end of the day is criticism.  Getting feedback in creative writing is like getting beaten over the head with a club after they do a number on your groined.  This is good though, at the same time because everyone starts out wrong and learns to get better later on.Actually the quote that has been posted lately on the site is very true:

One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832)

Yes, I know of many painters that write on the side and vise-versa, but they still cannot paint what can be written. Pictures show a single moment, but words can show a moving landscape if said right. The picture changes and grows as the meaning develops. Doesn't film do this though? Yes, if you want limited vision. Film doesn't show the subtextual periphery of open-minded vision, though, which you can find in writing.

"Getting feedback in creative writing is like getting beaten over the head with a club after they do a number on your groined." We all need to be shown how to do it properly so we don't get used to doing it wrong and it's an interesting concept:"For if a writer could paint what they write, could you imagine?" some people can. my friend writes poems and then draws pictures for them or the other way around. Good stuuf.
