    September 25, 1930 – May 10, 1999
    An American poet, songwriter, musician, composer, cartoonist, screenwriter and author of children's books. He sometimes styled himself as Uncle Shelby especially for his early children's books. To this day he remains one of the most beloved authors of children's books in the United States.

    Maya Angelou, one of the most widely know female poet's of the day was born on April 4, 1928. Forty years hence, someone she dearly admired was assassinated on that exact date. Yes, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I can remember an Oprah interview where she actually cried, and said; (paraphrased) "the day I was born was the day the king died, how could I ever forget that marked day?"
