Points

Points are like money on AP for advertising or holding contests. You can gain these by commenting on others poems or by entering contests and if you win, the minimum you could actually receive is 300 points. You will find all of the contests under the 'contest' tab at the top of your page.

If you want to know how to promote a poem then please check out the “critiquing” column that has already been posted.

As previously mentioned the points help promote poems, either in the shameless box or featured box.

Some poets like to promote other poems around the site, and you’ll find that if your poem is in the box and it says “For” before your name then someone has promoted it for you. This can be a useful piece  of information. Sometimes the poem disappears for a while and then comes back into the box; this is because there will be a lot of other poets actually promoting their poems too, so please don’t worry your poem will remain in the list until all points have been spent.

If you have friends on AP then they might need points that you might want to give,  You give points like this. “/give fredbloggs: 30 then a message to say why.” You can do this  by using the 'Help' tab and use the box available there.

You can buy points by clicking the “Store” tab and the prices are listed there. You can buy them through  'paypal' and  they will then be credited to your points total.

You only receive points if your comment is over 100 characters in length. The longer the comment the more points you receive, but don’t just say things like, “This is a great poem,” over and over again. Because if a Moderator sees this you could have points deducted from the amount you receive from commenting. Copy and pasting of a complete poem or a major part is not allowed and any points you may be credited from doing this will be removed by a Moderator.

Points can be given and points can be taken away just be aware of that and if you have had a warning previously and you do whatever you were warned not too do, then a Moderator won’t hesitate to remove them. Repeat offenders will incurr either a points fine or risk being banned from the site.

Best way to get points - comment, comment, comment and enter as many contests as you like - we are an interactive site afterall.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it very much.

I am sorry if I have offended any one. Not my intention.

Hello Ohm. We recommend that you try and limit doing that. Using one line as an example of what you liked is more or less acceptable, but still can be considered point grabbing if it is repeatedly done in every comment you make. Use your better judgment. If what you are doing is found to be breaking site policies, they will let you know.

I am fairly new to this site and it is the first one that I have joined that uses a system like the one used here. I find it hard to judge other peoples poetry sometimes because it could mean a lot to one person and nothing to someone else. If I read a poem that is outstandingly good or very humerous I will not hesitate to leave a comment. Likewise if the poem is very bad. For all of the in between poems though. I really think that all poems are great and its good for people to express themselves though poetry even if the end result isnt really what we all would class as a good poem.

When I read a poem I usually tell people to stop by and see me
One person said this was annoying and it really hurt my feelings I dont ever aim to be annoying I just know certain people read mine all time and I say got a new one up come see me that doesnt bother them but it did one person and i told this person come see Maryannde and I new contest they would be good in and that was the response I got dont beg its annoying does it sound like begging to you or annnoying
I dint aim to hurt their feelings would never do that
    But it sure hurt mine
    Susan~~~
Lots of time I read I read a lot of the new peoples
They never return the favor and I have promoted a poem and saw where people are reading it and i lost my points for not leaving a commment that hurts feeling too they could of at least said Nice poem or it sucked
I think if your poem is in the promote box if one clicks on it there should be a way for them to have to leave a comment that is just courtesy thinking on my part
I love this place and would never hurt anyone's feeling I have friends who snail mail me we mail each other cards etc, I just dont want hard feeling cuz i say come see me thats just me
    Ahummmm Sorry I have rambled

It would really be nice if people would leave more comments. My latest post get over 20 views but only 3 comments. That sucks.
I try to leave a comment on every poem I read. What's so hard?
