About Deleting Comments

Why Allpoetry should allow users to delete other users posts on their poetry/columns/any posts etc.
Why Allpoetry doesn't already have the option to delete another users post from your own poetry, I will never know.

I will use one of my poems for example. In 'I Miss You' there are hundreds of wonderful posts that are helpful and supportive. Then, all of a sudden, over the last few days I have gotten a slew of horrible posts made by people only looking to receive points and downcast my spirit.

They stated things like 'this poem is cliche' and 'this has a lot of trophies' and made sure I knew that 'every person and their mother' has felt what the poem stated before. I was appalled. Has the spirit of the poetry community really gone down so much as to let people who are so negative comment? This is my beef with these comments:

I, and most other poets, don't write to please the reader, but as a means of expressing their own thoughts, feelings, etc. We don't purposefully write 'cliches' nor care if we have a lot of trophies. That just means someone enjoyed your poem as much as you did. Critiques should never say 'this poem is too long' or 'this poem is cliche' because they have no say over what the poet wished to express, how they wished to express it or how long it took them too. If they are reading it, then they should accept it for what it is. Expression.

Constructive criticism to me is when someone doesn't say 'this poem is cliche' but offers ways of rewording the phrases with full knowledge that this is their method, and not necessarily the poets. I am sick of people saying crap that isn't helpful and just puts you down, like saying the poem was a waste of their time.

I believe that you should have a right to delete comments that are not constructive nor positive, and that if a comment is deleted, the points should be withdrawn from the poster. Most of these comments are just there for the person to receive points, and not for them to be helpful.

This is a brilliantly worded column and is full of truths....This is one of the main reasons I no longer really write for the website and have chosen to help out in other ways on here...Very well done!! I hope more people get the chance to read this

You remember that I love your poetry no matter what anyone says. I think your work is amazing and needs no work! You tell the people who are being rude thank you for pointing out another person to ignore.

Thank you, I figured it out a little bit ago. Don't know why I ended up not seeing it before, lol. I am going to keep this column up though just for the expression of why I wish to delete some posts. I want someone out there who doesn't know how and is as frustrated as me to understand and learn.

As far as I am aware, the poem "owner" CAN delete comments. As a test, please write a comment on one of my poems, saying "This is shite". I will then delete it so you can see!
