what I want for this column (and I'll probably make this into a contest) is for you to tell me what you personally think God is like, or your opinions on religion.

Humans generally have it all wrong.
Did you ever notice that God is a concept exclusively subscribed to by the human race? Do you find any animals believing in any one scientifically inexplicable ruler? No ma'am, you do not.
I will tell you what God is. God is a personification of anything that humans cannot understand. If there is something we do not understand, our egos and our fear of the unknown have drawn us to the concept that there is a "God" or, more or less, a magical man who rules over us and takes care of the things we cannot comprehend.
God is humans taking credit for everything that exists.
If there is anything beyond science, it isn't a God. It's something that humans (obviously) cannot understand and for fucking SURE has nothing to do with our species and is CERTAINLY not gender specific.
How fucked up is it that there are so many millions of people that truly believe there is a magical man somewhere who controls everything? What a fucking sick dictatorship.
Humans need to get over themselves and stop thinking that we are in charge of everything. We are in charge of next to nothing and it freaks most of us out.

To put into simplest terms, God is Love. And until you know who God is, you can't know what True Love really is. And through Jesus, there is hope of a live that we never thought possible. Often times though, we want to dismiss it as foolish and "all in the head", even when we haven't tried to invest time into studying what this God is about. That sounds like ignorance to me. How does one know something is foolishness based off of one bad experience or even several or if they've never looked into themselves? People can be wrong, but God never is.
It just depends on how desperate you to seek Him and how bad you want to be rescued. -

I think everyone does. but in the end, you just hafta decide for yourself what you believe about god and religon and existence and all that scary stuff. :/

I personally don't believe in God, but if I had to find an equivalent I believe in, I'd have to say nature. That force that makes and breaks itself, everything that exists and is so unbelievably immense yet all in interaction and interrelation. Nudity and excessive profanity as sins? If you think in the grand scheme of things, that really doesn't matter in the slightest. Or I don't see a reason why it should. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone. I don't believe in "sins" against some "supernatural being -- I believe in the choice each of us makes on a daily basis, to hurt or help other people, animals, etc. Just my view of course
