Over the years, i've dished-out La-La Challenges to friends all over AP who have wanted the extra challenge or just strict guidelines to write within, in order to kick-start their muse.
What is a La-La Challenge? I hear you ask...
A La-La Challenge is a challenge set by me that includes a certain prompt, form and sometimes, strict word stipulances. The prompt could be absolutely anything, ranging from picture prompts to excerpts taken from other peoples' poetry here at AP. The form required for each round will also be different and will be chosen based upon my beliefs of your abilities - I won't set anything that'll cause too much difficulty; but then I won't assign you anything that I feel is too easy either. During the writing of your pieces, i'm always on hand to help you with the form itself...yet I won't help with the content.
The purpose of my La-La Challenges is to push each individual a little further, to teach...but mainly, just for the fun of it.
My intention for the summer::
At present, I have 11750 points...i'm aiming to raise enough points for the running of a new challenge titled the same as this column, that includes a decent winner's pot at the end. I'm taking donations and will thank each person individually at the end of this page. I'm hoping to hold a contest for every round, but when it isn't possible, i'm prepared to conduct the rounds in column format, where poets post their link as a comment.
I intend to run a challenge that consists of 15 rounds total; mainly, we'll be writing form poetry, but there will be the inclusion of prose and free verse somewhere down the line. For every challenge that I set you, I will also complete an example piece (fair's fair).
I have opened an "Auditions" round http://allpoetry.com/contest/show/2455585 where 25 poets will be selected to move forwards into the main competition...rounds will then see eliminations until we're left with the top 4 for the final.
You'll be required to join a group if you advance, simply to keep track of rounds (both in column and contest format).
Scoring::
Judges will rubric grade each piece individually and I will display a full set of scores at the end of each round, thus deciding the winning order in a fair manner. In the case of a tie, I will add together previous rubric scores for those involved and the one with the highest overall score, will receive the higher placing.
Eliminations::
Each round will see a different number of eliminations...the person/people who score least on the rubric for each particular round, will be the person/people eliminated.
The purpose of this column::
To ask for points donations of course!!! (haha...)
& to explain the challenge in as much detail as possible for those entering the auditions.
