Just because the police couldn’t locate her daughter, it didn’t stop Cindy from searching the streets for her.
She pulled over every 500 metres searching in and out of shops, asking people if they had seen her girl.
People shook their heads; no one had seen a sight of her. All Cindy could do was cry.
It was now 2am and the streets were bare, though this didn’t mean Cindy would stop. She thought she would have a better chance finding her at this time then at any time in the afternoon, for maybe she didn’t want to be found and maybe was walking the streets at 2am to hide from other people and the crowds.
Cindy drove her car so slowly that passing police officers had to pull her over and question her.
“My daughter is missing and you just sit on your backsides doing nothing.” She screamed at one of the officers who were eating a bagel looking at her carelessly.
“When did she go missing?” He questioned, getting his pen out ready to jot the information on his note pad.
“Yesterday morning, I’ve just found out that my husband is gay and has been sexually abusing my daughter since she was ten. Ten! My god, how can I live with such a man?” Cindy asked herself now in shock.
“Mam, there are a lot of man out there who are like this and those men, deserve to die.” The officer spoke.
Cindy choked on her tears. “This is too much officer. I need to find my daughter and I need to find her now!”
“How about we take you to the station and you can put in a missing persons claim down there?” The officer offered.
“I went there earlier and they turned me away from help I needed.” She spat.
“But mam, now that she has been gone for 24 hours we can help you locate her!”
Cindy nodded and was put in the back seat of the police car.
“What about my car officer, if I get parking fines for this, how will I pay?” Cindy shrieked.
“Any fines you get for parking here, just forward to us and we’ll pay for it.”
“Oh really, oh thank you.” She said now placing the seat belt around her.
The police station was the same one Cindy had been to before. It smelt like men and she wanted to puke.
She was taken into a small room and then asked questions. Cindy took out photos of Annie that she always had in her bag.
“Please print these photos and put her in the newspaper or something. I just want to do everything I can to find my girl, she doesn’t deserve to be treated the way she was by her father, all she needs is her mom and I’m her mom although she’s escaped from me too. Officer, I don’t know what to do.” Cindy wept.
“Look mam, we’ll put these photos in the newspaper and in her folder for the missing persons unit, after they have the copies, they’ll make up a sign of where she was last sighted and how long she has been missing for. Now are you prepared to offer a reward if anyone comes forward of her sighting?” The police officer said.
“Look. I can only give out a reward once they return her to me, but if she has escaped on her on free will then who the hell needs a reward?” Cindy Asked.
“Just incase mam, people may have got hold of her and could be holding her against her will.”
“Oh great, don’t tell me that!” She wailed, pulling her hands over her face.
