I had my visit with my HMO"S cancer specialists today. And he let me know the cat scan results did not show the cancer had spread beyond the lymph nodes. Now as he explained it this meant that nothing of significant size was detected. This doesn't mean it isn't elsewhere, just not large enough for the cat scan to pick up.
So at this point they will be doing my surgery on Tuesday April 7th. They will removed the melanoma growth from my right shoulder and also the lymph nodes in my right neck.
The surgeon said the skin growth removal will take about one hour and the lymph nodes about four. Then I will have to be in hospital for about two days. And also off work or approximately one month depending on how fast I heal.
I did want to say thank you again for all the love and support I have received at AP. And the many prayers. I also want to praise and give thanks to the Lord for His mercy and grace towards me.
The doctor told me after the surgery he will let me know how they will proceed from there in terms of additional treatments. This will no doubt include future cat scan to watch for places the cancer may appear later.

You will be in my prayers, I know how scary it can be, because of the fact I was diagnosed with Colon cancer. and recently just had the surgery They did the open colon surgery, but regarding the cat scan, the scans are not very accurate in my opinion, my b/law just pasted away 6mo ago, and there was a lot of issues/concerns regarding the cat scans results. My doctor gave me a MRI he stated that they are very efficient and accurate..Maybe talk to your Dr. and see what he says..God Bless and take care, Brenda

Dear Penman: I'm so sorry to hear about your bout with cancer, but at the same time I'm glad you got some kinda good news that it hasn't spread. Those cat scans are pretty accurate - from what I hear. I will surely pray that the Lord will touch and heal you and be with you throughout the entire procedure. This sounds like good news - that the cancer remained local. Thank God!
That's a long surgery. Make sure to ask for the drug that alleviates nausea. They give it before surgery, through your IV, I think. The drugs for anesthesia are so much better now. I assume they gave you a time period to abstain from eating/drinking. That's to help keep nausea at bay, so it's important.
You're in my prayers for successful surgery and a great recovery.

Well to be honest this sounds like a lot of good news to me. Are they suggesting radiation or chemo? When mom had her breast cancer she opted not to have chemo or radiation because they took out 14 lympth nodes and none showed any of her cancer. Also, they got it very early thanks to her insisting on a biopsy in the first place. This was like oh 10 years ago now and now signs of cancer yet.
So let's hope and pray that you'll do even better than she did. Please do keep us in touch. And I hope your stay in the hospital is a good one.
You just need to get a lot of rest.
