April is National Poetry Writing Month

a.k.a. NaPoMo, the goal of this is that you write a poem *every day* for the month of April. If you write one for each day this month, we'll give you a free month of silver membership! Join the NaPoMo Group 2, or just post them as regular poems with the napomo category. Lets get writing!
It's not too late to start! Just catch up later from the first few days!

The merits behind posting on the group board vs. as actual poems is if you feel it might not be ready for a true critical review, but rather just want others to encourage you and see what others are looking for, the board might be better. You could always post it to a poem afterwards.

To keep the groups smaller, a second group has been formed for once the first is full. Join it here.

If you are interested in having some help coming up with things to write about, check out our awesome freewrite practice section.

Also, Poets and writers magazine (who we advertise with sometimes) has some prompts:
http://www.pw.org/content/poetry_challenge

As far as the free silver membership I'm offering, you don't have to post the poems each day, just make sure you get 30 done by the end of the month, and put them in the NaPoMo category or post on the group board. At the end of the month, send me an IM and I'll verify then credit your account.

Best of luck to you! It's a great way to get some fresh words down if you've been stuck for awhile. I'll be participating too

-Kevin

Would it be possible to get the silver membership starting in June rather than May?

    Hi, I have a question.

I've posted the first weeks worth of poems in the NaPoMo group 2 board, and then made a list to keep track of the poems I'm counting in the NaPoMo challenge.

If I continue to collect my poems in my list do I have to post them in the relevent topic on the board? Or when it comes to communicating that I have my 30 poems at the end of the month, could I just provide the link to my NaMPoMo list?

sorry to be soooo stupid but what does IM mean. does that mean i just got to email you that ive submitted 30 poems. excuss the question, but im new on here and i love your idea, im over flowing with new stuff. bit dark mind! hope all poetry goes because some of its for 18+ really and about abuse???? please email back, i need to know before i submit any poetry that some might find offensive! thanks x

    • IM means to message. If you want to message someone, put your mouse over the person's name, and click "Send Message." Another way to do it is to go to their page and click in the top, right-hand corner, "Send message."

When you made your poem, if you didn't label it in NaPoMo, you should edit it. You can go to the page of your poem, and in the top right corner, under "Owner Options" there is something that says "Edit". You click that, and it should show you the poem, and you can edit the poem there. To edit the labels, you need to look under the title, and there should be the poem. Under the poem, if you scroll down a bit, there should be something that says, "Categories: optional, separate by comma, make up your own. Popular:" and you type in NaPoMo in the box provided. Don't forget to scroll down and click "Submit Poem" When you're done or else it won't change.

I'm so sorry, I'm horrible at explaining things... I'm a visual person :/
But anyway, I hope this helped.

P.S... I am sure if you label it in Abuse, or Adult, it should be alright with everyone. You are free to write any poetry you want at any time you want - And as long as it's poetry, in the month of April, it should count.

Hope I helped! And I am sorry this was so long! I truly am!

    ???

do i just get one month of free silver membership or forever?

  • So we just have to make sure to message you at the end of the month and let you know that we have our 30 poems?

  • Ok just making sure -
We write thirty poems this month,
Categorize them into NaPoMo, message you at the end of the month, and get a silver membership? Sweet!
Oh and also, before I knew it was Poetry Month, I added like 15 poems I wrote a few years ago onto AllPoetry. I said in my Author's Notes that it was written on the specific dates. I'm being fair and not saying I'm writing them this month. Would they still count, or do I still need to write poems to cover the first few days of April? Thaaaaanks ^-^

P.S. I think this is a fantabulous idea. It makes me want to write!

I Like To Take This Challenge

Also I want to make sure I understand that as long as I write 30 poems before the month is up I don't have to join the group. Is that correct as well? Thank you.

  • Sounds fair enough but what prize do we win if we are already Gold subscribers?

Gold members can always convert silver membership time to gold time in their billing history page... So you'd get the equilivant number of days in gold membership

I've written 2 poems tonight, titled by date in the interest of this group. I'm a gold member, so I'm not going to win anything, but I like the idea of writing some poem every day...a commemoration...I'll try it out this month...Thanks for promoting a great idea.
