Exciting News!
Allpoetry has been approached by the deputy chief of staff to President Obama, regarding the new appointee to the position of Poet Laureate to the United States. It seems Obama has heard good things about our website, and thinks this would be an excellent place to find our next Poet Laureate.
We'll be suggesting to them the names of the top three poets in terms of numbers of applause over the next 1 week period - president Obama himself will choose between the top three. The post comes with a $100,000 stipend to focus on writing poetry for a year, in addition to likely book deals and general fame.
Good luck to everyone, and how exciting that Allpoetry gets to be a part of making history.
Update: Happy April Fools Day! While we hope Mr. Obama knows and loves Allpoetry, the Poet Laureate is chosen by the librarian of the library of congress, and we don't get to help unfortunately! Still, I hope an Allpoetry member is chosen in the future!

so with the whole poet laureate thing, that means those that have the biggest social network will more then likely get picked ?
cause its the same 3 or 4 week after week... just to me personally, it doesnt seem fair.
Some of us sent poems to Obama; perhaps the reason for his idea. I was one and had sent two before his inauguration. (Note: I hope he liked the poetry, cool idea!)

I loved the note on the front page of Storywrite, but the 'creme de la creme' is the AllPoetry one!
In Australia, this type of thing is often labelled "Come in, Spinner!" And refers to the gullibility of some.

that is a great April fools joke (and I won't spoil it) I was thinking that, what if an eleven-year-old received the most applauses (lots of nice friends!) and Obama liked it the most... lol
I think darell should be Obama's Poet Laureate! He is a big supporter of Obama, and a great Poet as well!!!!
